They were consignment guns so they are technically private party transfers. My other two dw were also ppt. I am currently having a S&W 617 no dash shipped in by having it converted to sigle action in a simalure way. The gun has to come in state already I. Single action condition. The ffl could not do it once it is received.
Most of the time when someone wants to sell an off roster handgun here in ca they either sell it via ppt through calguns or do consignment from a gun shop. Most gun shops won't buy off roster handguns directly and if they do they will screw you big time because they could only sell it to a cop or out of state.
I hope people become more open to converting dw and S&W to single action. Us here in ca would be happy to pay the prices things are listed at on here on gunbroker because we get gouged here because the supply of available off roster handguns is fixed. Since people know that it would be hard to find another they never sell the ones they have.
I got lucky with the two Supermags I purchased recently bcausethe owner died and the wife was selling them. I heard about it from someone and first thing the next morning I drove 90 miles to the shop hopping they were still there

If a FFL (Gun Shop) already has the gun in CA and has it for sale, they cannot modify it to Single Action in shop themselves or send it to a 07 licensed FFL for modification (Removal of one part that anyone can remove) converting it to SAO for sale in CA?

WOW.  I'm sorry to hear it is such a pain to get a gun out there.

I'm certainly glad I live in a more gun friendly state!  That sounds like a lot of hoops to jump through to me.

It is a big pain. Once it is here in state and it is under the ffl it would have to go put of state for it to be converted. If the ffl was an 07 and had a manufacturing license then maybe they cOuld do it but I am not sure.
Your bes bet to buyin one is having someone on this board who is selling one and willing to do the conversion, or finding a middle man ffl out of state that has an 07 ffl they can do the conversion then ship in or getting buddy buddy with a cop who can buy it from someone out of state then once they own it they can ppt it to you. Also if you have a father/grandfather/son out of state they can gift you an off roster handgun which can then be legally shipped in.

Once it is in state from a transaction like this, are there restrictions? Would this make it a legal CA gun, and then eligible for resale in CA in the future?

This is all pretty bizarre, I admire CA shooters who have to put up with this kind of crap.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thank you for the info Shooting4life.

Once the DW is in CA, it's legal to do a Private Party Transfer, person to person, face to face (PPTs are Roster exempt). If it's sold to shop then you gotta go through the hoops again if they're even willing to do that.

And because the only way to buy in state is face to face the availability is low and prices go way up. I know more than one person that has spent more than 1500 on a regular 15-2 pistol pack with 4 barrels. Things are just silly here and that is why i posted up here for help from out of staters.
Recently I sold a high end rifle and scope for over 5000. It took me more than 3 months to spend the money because I could not find any pre lock smiths or dw. If I was in any other state could have spent that money in a few hours on things I want on line.

This was an interesting topic for those of us that like SA. I like my Ruger SA.

Convert to single action.

Remove the grip, remove two allen screws holding the side plate, remove side plate (keep it flat as pictured) Use needle nose to remove strut (#2), the strut plunger(looks like a very little nail) and the spring inside the hole. Done.

I would think that CA would not accept this because of the ease to change back. Maybe weld up the hammer strut hole? Oh well. $35.00.

The sear is on the rear of the trigger. Actually when you look at the mechanics, the sear should be the contact point on the hammer as its nose fits into the shelf on the rear of the trigger.

Little puzzled on the converting to DAO. Legal point? Just because?

The change does not haveto be permanent at all. As log as it is sa when it is imported into ca you are ok. Since owning a double action revolver is legal you can legally convert the gun back to stock once you take posetion. I have not done this with a Dan wesson yet but have done it to a couple of s&w's without issue.

Double action only, hack up the hammer. If you can't thumb it back, you can't utilize Single Action.

Yeah, it does not have to be permanent, just has to be in SAO state to enter, once it's in the new owners hands it can go straight back to DA/SA.

BuT chopping up the hammer makes it double action. For it to be legal it has to be sigle action only. It cannot be single/double action or double action only.

Oh didn't think he was asking about double action only for import. Yeah SAO, easier anyways. 🙂
