Does anyone here have any experience with the EWK fiber optic front sight for the Dan Wesson small frame revolver? I have a couple questions:

1--What is the diameter of the insert?

2--Why is the sight taller on one side?

I have asked these questions on the EWK web sight, but have yet to receive an answer.

Thanks,

Garry

I can't help you with the diameter...my girlfriend caught me lying years ago!

The overall shape of the sight is similar to a patridge sight which is affixed with the highest end towards the shooter (which eliminates ramp reflection from the sight). With the fiber optic sight affixed in the same orientation, the light gathering properties of the fiber work the best in most situations.

Yes, I paired one with my own modification to the rear sight using 2-color dots.

I really am very happy with the results the 000 sight picture is way better than the black on black IMO. I don't have the measurement but I can go get it & measure if you need, this is the sight picture though.

I have two of the green fiber optic sites one on a 15-2 and one on a 741.  I think the fiber optic sites are excellent and I will eventually buy one for each DAN I own.  My old eyes love these sites.

I would certainly like to see more info on mister callan's modification.  How about a how to write up or video????  How did you get the green dots on the rear site????

It was very easy once I figured it out.

I bought a fiber-optic rear sight for something else. It was very shallow which I felt I needed with the existing rear sight blade.

I looked at how other fiber optics were actually made & this one had a regular sight base with a sheet metal spring clip bolted to it holding the tubes in place. The tubes themselves are bell-mouthed at the ends so they can't slide.

Then I carefully marked the center of the existing rear notch & carefully filed it to a bigger width so the optics would JUST fit in the new gap. Then it was just drill & tap & bolt in from below & re assemble & sight in.

Now If I could just remember what exactly the brand was I'd tell you!

+1 on the bold. I would love to do modify my DW 715 with your mod. My old eyes can't see the black rear sight that well and fiber optic rods would be just the ticket.

Update: I just got an e-mail from Eric at EWK Arms. The diameter of the front sight rod is 1.5mm or .059"(I believe .060" will work).

or.... just buy a rear Williams Fire Sight for a Ruger (GP100/ Blackhawk)

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Evidently, these Fire Sights are only sold in sets and I don't own any Ruger firearms, so the front sight would be useless to me.

On a side note, these come standard on the S&W SW22 Victory which I have and love. I did a range report on another web sight. If interested, here is the link:
