From the Average Joe Tuneup Topic
5) Vibrate off the sideplate by tapping the grip stud with a nylon hammer or wood screwdriver handle
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I wonder if it being chromed has anything to do with it the side plate being so difficult to remove.
It's a possibility. However, I have one blued W12 with a side plate that is an absolute bear to get off. Some do fit tighter than others.
Well, I am glad seem to have been able to get to the bottom of this, and I must say that in one good looking 15-2 you have there! I would be proud to own that gun.

I came across this forum recently.I have a Dan Wesson .357 which I think is a 15-2 but not positive. It is a Monson stamped gun with serial number 218848 and appears to me to be nickel or high polish stainless.I had this passed down from my uncle and love the gun, but i have always been curious of the mfg date and value.

Welcome to DWF.
S/N 218848 is most likely to be a 1979 15-2. Stainless guns were introduced in 1982 and all the stainless guns we are aware of have "SD" or "357S" as part of the S/N.
It is possible that this is factory (actually aftermarket through DW) nickel on a 15-2.
