UPDATE !!!
Just found a DW ad in my Sep 79 American Rifleman introducing the new .22.
After flipping through a bunch of old magazines, it is readily apparent that by May of 1980 DW was advertising the .22 right along with the .357.

Somewhere along the line we're going to find out that they were cleaning out an old storeroom in Monson, and said "Well, we can't waste them, build the next 1000 with these triggers. Thirty years from now it'll never matter."
Meanwhile, we're going NUTS.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve, you're probably right. That's the only excuse that makes sense, really. Here's another one currently on GB, with an even higher number.
