They did move the screw into the frame at Monson sometime. I had started a list of serial numbers a while back, in an attempt to try & figure out when the move was made. This is the lowest s/n I had found with the screw in the frame.

I thought I was really getting somewhere, until Steve came along & said that one of his guns had a higher s/n than this & the screw was still in the trigger.
I threw that paper away...I'll try & figure it out later.

I set mine by gradually turning it out until the gun will not fire, then turn it in an eighth to quarter turn. Check to see that the trigger releases every time. Then put a dab of blue locktight on the screw.
On the large-frame screws, for some reason DW installed them backwards...you have to remove the trigger assembly to get at them. Once you've done that, remove the screw, swap it around and install it so the allen head is outside the trigger guard. Then you can adjust it without taking the gun apart.

I don't clearly remember what I posted before (hey, I don't clearly remember what was for dinner last night ) but here's what I have
s/n 7261x- a 1977 gun has the screw internal on the trigger
s/n 20427x -vintage unknown has the screw in the frame (and I may have misposted this one )
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Or I may have been sleep posting again at the time & read it wrong. I can't say that's never happened before.
I wish I could find that post & re-read it.
Well anyhoo, that's great news then! That means that as of now, we can use your s/n as the standing low number for having the screw in the frame. This has given me hope once again to start keeping tabs on these.

Where does that leave my .22 with the 4 digit serial number and screw in the frame? I know each model has different production runs, but 4 digit has to be early.

I don't know for sure, but I think .22 was a little later in time. We do know that there is no real logic to DW serial numbering

I just found this one tonight on GB, it's s/n 21xxxx (can't read the rest) & it has the screw in the trigger. Back to the drawing board.

SHOOT, there's an article over at the DWCA (beats me if I can find it right now) that tells when the .22 was introduced. 1982, if I recall correctly.
As of yet, I've never seen a .22 s/n lower than 4-digits, so at this point in time, I'm assuming they started the .22's at s/n 1000. Merely my speculation of course, pending further facts.
