supermagfans collection pic #6 & #9

appear visually different than the monson guns .  some have fluting that comes to more of a sharp point than the monson gun I have , which is more rounded at the rear .

I preffer the looks of the fluted norwich cylinder myself  . I had a norwich gun with an unfluted cylinder . If I bought a new cylinder from cz-usa what would be the odds of it having  “pointy” flutes ?

What may be a simpler way of asking the same thing is how many of you have fluted norwich guns , and how many of those guns have this distinct fluting which is more pointed ?

btw Supermagfan those guns look mahhhvilus !

Ironically the 414 on the green towel pictured is at CZ getting an unfluted cylinder in it.  I crave the unfluted look in the stainless supermags.  I never paid attention to the pointedness of the fluting.  In my collection of pics there are two fluted Norwich 445's and the 414 fluted for the time being.  I gather they all have the same style cylinders.  The VH slotted 445 pictured is a Monson gun for comparison.

Thanks for the compliment too!

BTW - when the 414 returns it will be a complete pistol pack and hopefullly the barrels are all engraved corrctly to match.  I also have obtained a Norwich ported 8" barrel  and an additional 8" barrel with a scope mount to make it a 6-barrel pack.  Now I need Charger to help me find a Samsonite to put it in. Well by my count you've got 1 excess 445 ! you can't shoot two at a time ! you could probably shoot the 445 in your strong hand and the 414 in the other hand , but TWO 445's ? teeheehee

Is cz gonna send your old cylinder back ?

They do look good .

They are supposed to send the cylinder back so i would have the option to re-install it or uh hum sell it with the gun if that ever happened.

The fabric store I went to, only had smooth foam, not corrugated (SP?). Cutting it straight is tough, especially in the bottom of the cutouts for the gun to sit. That's when I was glad I was putting fabric over it.Laugh

Oh & the lady at the fabric store used a normal electric knife to cut it off the roll...worked great, like a hot knife through butter.Cool

that's about how you work with motorcycle seat foam , an electric knife with a serrated edge and for contouring you'd use a belt sander , or just a sanding block etc . seat foam is pretty dense though .

When I made the case for my gun; the guy at the foam shop recommended to decide the thickness I wanted and build it up in 2 or 3 layers.  Cut out the top layer to the guns outline, the 2nd layer outlined on the inside of the 1st and don't touch the 3rd layer, and only cut the 1st layer for barrels and grips.  He had a spray adhesive that put the layers together permanently after they were cut.  I used 3 layers of 1" medium density foam.

I used a fresh razor blade & got mine to about 85-90% decent looking. The outer edges I saved for last & it shows...I was sick of messing with foam by then.lol2 I figured I'd take it back apart when I need something to do one day & use coarse sandpaper to get them straight.

I like the three layer idea. 3M contact adhesive will probably hold foam together nicely, I'll have to practice of a few pieces & see what happens.

The above picture is not very good but maybe you can see that the flutes on the Monson 715 (Middle) is not as deep as the Norwich 732 (Top) or the Palmer 738p (Bottom).
