We had our regular silhouette practice day switched from Friday to Thursday, due to bad weather forecast for today...it rained, was cold and very windy. However, Thursday was a nice 74 degrees, albeit windy.
I took two Dan Wessons with me, my trusty 740-V8S silhouette and it's shorter brother, the 6" .357 Supermag. There were a lot of projects that needed done for silhouette, but I started out with the short gun. Here's a pic from the range.

The original barrel nut was about stripped, so over the winter I installed a new one, with 4 slots instead of two. That means the gun has to be zeroed in again. Had some loads originally for my Contender barrel that wouldn't chamber and I thought I would try them in the revolver, figuring the chambers were a bit larger. They fit fine.
Setting the sights for 50 meter Field Pistol pigs, I figured maybe it would be close. The first shot slammed the pig over, as did the second and third shots...I guess the sight settings didn't change after all. Considering I'm not a great standing shooter, that was good. I missed the next two, then found out the empties were stuck pretty tight. I was using the only box of Winchester brass I had, and never shot yet. Looks like I will pull the rest of them, they were a bit too warm, I believe.
Switching to my other .357 Supermag loads in IHMSA nickel cases, everything worked fine, and I shot about 55 rounds just having fun at the targets from the standing position.
After a lot of silhouette shooting with my bolt guns, it was time for the 8" Supermag, only this time from the creedmoor position. This is always my favorite Dan Wesson, being the first one I bought, and the one that got me my first Revolver 40x40, and it was a joy to shoot yesterday, as always. I never got around to shooting it last year, and I missed it. Sure was fun shooting out to 200 meters with it, watching the rams fall. The wind probably caused a few misses, and my rustiness caused a few more, but it felt good to shoot the Dan Wessons again.

Them's some pretty irons. I just sent mine off to DW for tightening up and reblueing; will post when it's back, otherwise I'd have to go to the range, storms and all, and do some shootin.
Yes, please do post back. I need to send my Model 15 in for the same thing sometime soon & would like to hear how yours went. I'm also interested in knowing if the re-bluing looks the same as the original bluing does...I would assume it will.
The 'ol 740 is lookin' pretty schweet, IHMSA.

Thanks for the range report. It is good to hear that some get to go to the range and enjoy the fruits of DWAS. Lately it is s struggle to get out of the office before this late. The only way to keep in touch with the shooting world is to enjoy the stories that are provided here. Keep on reporting! Oh and once again Never stop the pics.
