Dan Wesson identifies the model 15 as a small frame. Mine seems huge. I just can't imagine how they could call this a small frame.

Does anyone have a picture of a small and large frame side-by-side. I've been searching and can't find one.

Thanks.

Mr1911 Thanks for getting the question up on our Forum, and Andrew1220 for responding with pic: May I be the first to offer praise? What a beautiful sight to behold! drool Since we're on a sort of comparison of Small vs Large Frame revolvers, I'd like to add a question to the post:

From what I understand, if a person is looking to change or upgrade their DW Revolver grips, someone with a Small Frame should be looking for a "Square Tang" grip, versus those with Large Frame should be looking for a "Round Tang" grip. With that said, two questions for our members as I am still learning the specifics:

     - First, are there any exceptions to the Small Frame = Square Tang / Large frame = Round Tang?

     - Second, is the physical size of the grip bigger on the Large Frame Revolver versus the Small Frame one? I would guess it is, ... but (forgive me) it was           a little hard for me to know for certain with the photo above where the black grips are sort of covering a black background...

Thanks in advance for the responses!

I have seen on a certain auction site that ends in bay picture of small  frame grips , listed as large frame grips ( square tang hole) picture clearly shows the word LARGE inside the grip leading to confusion. In this case, the word refers to the size of the grip as in small, medium and large. I actually bought my DW 15-2 because of the small grip and price. In those days all I knew about them was that they were considered to be accurate and you could change barrel length.

Small and large, round versus square, are not interchangable. The size of the grip in the hand varies but as far as using a square peg in a round hole, well, that just doesn't work. Not only that, the frame of a large frame gun is wider so it will not be adaptable to a small frame gun and vice versa. Hogue rubber grips come in both large and small frame sizes. Pachmyer grippers are only made for small frame guns as far as I know. Supermag and large frame grips are one and the same. Large frame factory wood target grips are virtually always smooth to allow the grip to slide in the hand to mitigate recoil. Finger groove combat grips come in both sizes but Sacramento grips are only small frame. The inletted carvable blanks are for small frame grips but I have one with a round hole that I suspect is not factory. Hope this helps.
