My 715 came with a 4" barrel and today I received the 6" VH barrel with a fiber optic sight I ordered from CZ.
When I try to put the 6" shroud on I find I have to tap the muzzle lightly with a rubber mallet to get the shroud to seat. I subsequently have to tap the shroud with a rubber mallet to remove it. The alignment hole on the shroud is big enough for the shroud locating pin because I can get the shroud to seat easily if the barrel isn't installed. So, I think I've got a problem with alignment between the locating pin and the shroud when the barrel is installed.
Is this something that will correct itself over time and putting rounds through the new barrel? It's got to be off by only 1-2/1000th of an inch. I'd rather not have to send the gun and barrels back to the factory for alignment if I can avoid it and I'm hesitant to let just any gunsmith take a crack at it.
Does the barrel fit snugly into the shroud? It would most likely be off at the rear hole of the shroud and if it's that close some sanding of the rear opening of the shroud should give you the clearance you need. A dowel with 200 to 400 grit paper taped on at one end and rolled til it snugly fits the hole and run with a drill for a short time then try, repeat til it snaps on and off. The rear opening sometimes varies; I have two 8" shrouds and one fits the barrel so snug that I had to work to get it through, I sanded the rear opening til I could slide it on and off, it was apparently aligned true though, because once on, the pin lined up and went in easily, even before I sanded it. The above procedure won't affect the integrity of the shroud or the barrel as you are only removing a minute amount of metal from a noncritical area.
