Mike- Depends on how you feel about it. If you're leaving the scope mounted, then there's no harm/no foul. I once owned a Ruger MKII SS Target Competition that was factory drilled and tapped into the top of the Bull Barrel, and it came with small fillers (like setscrews) that screwed in to place flush with the top of the barrel to fill the holes. A Monson SS SM is not something to pass up easily.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Buy it as you can always trade with someone like me. I would love to have a SS SM for my 715 or 744 for that matter. I don't like the frame drilled and having to remove the rear sight. Like on my 744 shown below. I will do a trade with you for the shroud and throw in my SS frame mount shown on the 744.
Here is my 722(M) with the SS detachable Vent Rib mount.
Actually neither is SS, but aluminum.

I agree with all of the above. As long as it is drilled into the shroud, remember we are talking about the ulitimate in revolvers here that you can always obtain another shroud without holes if you change your mind. I had always wanted to place a scope on my 7414 but hated to tap the only shroud I had. I saw a tapped shroud come up on auction just recently and jumper right on it. Good luck.
