So I have a model 15 porkchop with a 6" barrel. I just got a 2 1/2" barrel and shroud for it but have a problem. The slot in the shroud for the extractor rod is shorter and so the new shroud doesnt quite fit. Like I said I have a model 15 and I bought a new in box (old stock) 2 1/2" barrel and shroud p/n on box is M-14 S2. I wonder if this wasnt for a model 14. The slot depth in my 6" shroud is 1.260" and the depth in the shorter shroud is 1.160". Just enough difference that the shroud will not engage 100%. the slot is also a bit wider on the 6" shroud. Any thoughts?

I have a little bit of bad news for ya. The earlier style ejector rods that were used on the model D11/W12 & first generation model 14/15 are a little bit shorter than the later style "mushroomed" ejector rods.

If you just glued the mushroom tip onto the end of this rod, they would be about the same length.Smile

This is the style of M14 your snubby shroud was made for...

Tough luck on the shroud! Sounds like you will have to trade or modify. Good luck.

Not to steal a thread but this sounds like good info for the Shroud info page to maybe help the next person looking for a PC shroud.

To be honest with you I think the gun looks kinda silly with a 2 1/2" barrel. I work at a machine shop so extending the slot a bit would not be a problem. I'm just not sure if its worth the effort though. It sucks because the barrel and shroud are like new. They were still wrapped up in the original box.

Take the mushroom off your ejector rod. A dremel with a cutting disc would

make quick work of this. Use cold bluing on the end after the cut and your done.

You work at a machine shop so you probably have tools better than a dremel.

I think the gun would look awesome with the snubby barrel…each to their own.

yea your right it would look good with the snubby barrel. I was just trying to talk myself out of it cuz I was disapointed the barrel and shroud didnt fit. I looked for a long time for it and was so excited!!!! Could I just put the older extractor rod in it? I'm sure they didnt just change the design for the hell of it. Had to be a reason why they changed it.

IMHO, I think snubby barrels look GREAT on Porkchops!Cool The look stout & tough, sorta like a bulldog.Laugh (I'm using Shoot's gun as an example here, cuz his pic looks perfect.)

From what I've read in magazine articles, the mushroom tip was added to the ejector rod because shooters were complaining about the original one acting like a "nail" in the palm, when ejecting & reloading fast. I assume that they made it overall longer, so there would still be a full stroke when ejecting the empty magnum shells.

I must agree, it is a bit small & I could see it making a sore palm after a while.Surprised I haven't actually tried it yet, but I assume the two rod styles will interchange with each other. I'll have to try it one day, so I know for sure.

I would have chopped the mushroom off there already and had the snubby on.

Nobody would ever pay attention to it anymore than the door handles on your car.

I totally agree with CF the snub looks Bulldog tough, even the external nut looks

good with it and I don't like the external nut.

So whats the easiest way to touch up the bluing on the end of the ejector rod when I shorten it? Never did any bluing before. Do they sell like a bluing stick or something for real small areas like the one I need touched up?

Clean end with rubbing alcohol, dip a Q-tip into bluing solution then rub on piece a

few coats, wipe with wet towel, make a few passes with OOOO steel wool, wipe

with gun oil, ......done.
