I have a Dan Wesson D-11 357 and when i pull the trigger it
does not dent the primer far enough to go bang.
Does anyone have any advice?
I have had this gun for 8 yrs and it has great until this.

thanks,
Aaron

Threebit3- Welcome to DWF. I'm assuming this is a new problem with a revolver that otherwise functioned correctly? If you dryfire the revolver with the cylinder open, and your fingertip across the firing pin opening, you should feel a fairly sharp strike. If not I would investigate for:

1) A broken or damaged firing pin

2) Grit or crud built up in the firing pin "channel" stopping the firing pin from striking cleanly

3) Spring replacement (always a good idea, especially on one as old as a D-11)

Please stop by our New Members area when you have a chance, and tell us more about you and your D-11 (and of course, put up some photos)

edit: have you tried different ammo?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Spring replacement is really easy if you have any mechanical skills at all.  Order a set of Wolff springs (trigger return and hammer spring).

I don't have a D-11, so I don't really know if springs are the same as newer models or not.

CF--any help?

The D11 & the W12 appear to use the same internals. To me, the only spring that appears different between these early guns & the later common Model 15 is the small spring for the hand...# 43 in this picture.

I imagine that Wolff springs will install in the D11 with no problem, although I haven't tried it yet personally.

Two other possible issues come to mind, with your light strike problem.

1) The gun's action may just need a good scrubbing. Shoot has made a nice picture tutorial here, for the Model 15...most everything should be basically the same for the D11.

2) There may be some gunk in the firing pin area. With the hammer cocked, use a pen & poke at the firing pin, to determine if it floats freely in the frame. If it's stiff going in & out, then it needs a good scrubbing. Merely hosing it out with some aerosol brake cleaner might do the trick.Wink

Oh & show us someCool Pics of your gun, if you can.Laugh

Does it happen in the Double Action mode only? The hammer comes back faurther when it is cocked manually and then the trigger is pulled. If so it could be a weak main spring but not necessarily. I have one sent off to Dan Wesson now for light DA primer strikes. My bolt sometimes does not fall into the recess in the cylinder before the hammer drops causing the firing pin to strike the primer towards the edge where it is harder. I replaced the main spring and the firing pin before I noticed this. Timing issues are out of my league so I decided to leave it to the experts. Good luck.
