Just got into the Dan wesson family! extremely excited about this. Was cleaning a model 15 I belive for my father in-law and was telling him about a slight concern i had with a crud filled spring and he said, "well, its your gun so do what you thinks best." Secretly wanted to ask him to buy it from him before this happend. It was easier to ask to marry his daughter than to approach him about the Dan. But anyway, I'm having trouble trying to determine when it was made. If anyone can give me a little advice on how to tell the age by the sn I would greatly appreciate it. And no, my father in-law doesnt know when it was made either. Again, really happy to be in the Wesson family now. GREAT sight by the way!

Show us a photo with the SN and we can tell you a good bit about the gun.
Welcome to the forum! I plan on threating young men that come around my daughter versus giving them one... lol. In fact last time found me "cleaning" my dan... while they watched a movie....

That is a 15-2 6VH (six inch Vent Heavy), and 1979 was a very good year (hint)

I had a similar experience. Although I didn't ask in prior, her parents let me know in advance that I was the best guy that their daughterever brought home (at my insistence)...and they damn near strangled me with approval when we announced our marriage plans.
I will not divulge the ending...today.
Congrats on your newly acquired DW 15-2, that's gotta be a really special gift from a dad-in-law to you.
And if you wanna spin those grip medallions straight one day, just remove the grip...push it out with a custom paperclip (a paperclip bent into an "L" shape with pliers) from the inside & re-insert them straight. A little glue squirted in the wood hole beforehand will probably help them stay in that position indefinitely.
