Mike,

I'm certainly like the sounds of it but wonder if there would be a demand enough for them.  I'm sure they could make some limited runs and probably selll most of them to members here!

I know we've talked about it before... I think the 32 SuperMag would be pretty cool!

Jody:

Yes, I agree that a .320 SuperMag would be cool.  That would probably feel like shooting a DW .22 Magnum.

Regarding the larger calibers, FA has only made approximately 1000 in .500 Wyoming Express.  Actually, when I ordered mine the next SN was 923 or about there, and the way they let you specify your SN, there may well have been fewer than that.  I asked for and got #13.

In the case of DW, it's just a cylinder and barrel change.  The same goes for the .320 SuperMag.

It all seems feasable to me.

Yes, yes...I believe that would!Drool I like the idea & would be thrilled to see at least one of those come to fruition.

I am trying to wrack my brain trying to figure what CZ could do to make the DW revolver appeal to more than just a small niche. I think enough people have finally figured that revo has some good things still going for it, and when you add the multi barrel function of the DW, that does bring some more to the table. When I went to the gun show last week 95% of the revos were taurus then a few S&W and last maybe 5 rugers. But all the rugers were western style, (vacaro?) not the Blackhawks or security 6. Of the ALL the S&W were "lady smith" style and most of the taursus were also light wieght small .38.  That tells me the market is there for such a revo.

Since my understanding is that taurus bought S&W, I would think there would be a very good  marketing opening for an "american made" high quality revo. Now I am not slamming taurus or S&W, but there is a perception of lesser quality. CZ should work that and DW's american tradition.

Other than that, I think they should work the multi barrel aspect. Trying to sell a single barrel 6" revo against a single barrel 5" semi auto with the same price will be hard. Unless the gun does something the auto can't (large caliber, wildcat loads) then the bigger part of the market will not give a revo a second look.

With all the remakes on TV, a nice "Vegas" movie with Dan Tana using a new .500 DW revo.. well, Jlo sure has sold a lot of Desert Eagles... just saying...

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

Taurus bought S&W? I think you're confused. Taurus bought the tooling when S&W pulled out of Brazil, and went into the gun business. They aren't connected in any way other than that.

S&W bought Taurus, or at least controlling intrest when they were run by Bangor Punta.
The brazillian plant and tooling were purchased from Beretta. Here's 2 link's to the history.

That would be great if they came out with a new revolver(s)...I just have to wonder if they do if they will be something totally different than the Dan Wessons we have now. One would think if it was something that would be simply a new production of the old design they would have done it already (or rather would still be doing it) Ya' know they should have all the tooling and they're a small arms maker, so it shouldn't be a big deal to make them????

Eric,

I visited the CZ-DW shop about a year ago and asked about a new gun. They said they have all the parts but the cost would be pretty high. From what some of the SuperMags are selling for now-a-days the figure he gave me seems like a bargain.  2k to 2.5K for a new 414/7414. But I was also told they didn't have time to make them anyway.

Hopefully with the backing and deep pockets of CZ they will be able to bring the revolvers back to market.  I certainly hope they are not in the $2000 range because that will put them out of range of most folks.

If I'm not mistaken they (DW) are only producing around 3500 1911's a year so the revolver production would be less than that I'm sure.

One would think that with the CNC equipment Bob Serva brought to the Norwich facility, it would almost be "plug-n-play" by now, but maybe I don't understand all the intracicies and am completely wrong. Dunno.Screwy

However, I am sure that costs have gone up in the past decade & as such, the fewer guns made, the higher the cost for each gun. I sincerely hope that they will find a way to make a marketable revolver for us DW hungry buyers.Smile

Wow, that's very interesting there Ed!

CF, With the shroud and barrel project here, I can tell you at least for them, running some of the operations on the CNC's is great and for other operations it's downright about the worst way to go…One machine here from 1937 is WaaaaaY better for several steps in the process than a CNC also here that's from 1997! It can be done on the CNC, but there's really no good way…and it can be awfully slow. I just can't see them having thrown all that "old equipment" away, but you never know. If they did, we're probabley finished for a reasonably priced new Dan Wesson.

Please, just don't let anyone pop up and say something like, "CZ is gonna import revolvers from a 3rd world country and stamp "Dan Wesson" on them.  Like what Springfield does with some of their 1911 pistols.

This revolver is supposed to be produced by CNC type machining:

A new DW made like they made in the 80's and '90's would probably make a non pistol pack in blue 6" would probably be in the $1200 price range in todays market. Add $200 or so for stainless, then the extra barrels would price out about the same as now unless they make some big changes.

That's less than Freedom Arms charges these days. It's not uncommon to see a $2K price tag on their stuff.

Waldo may be right. For DW to be able to make a gun these days with the tight tolerances & quality control that we'd expect, we may not see a new DW revolver for under the $1K mark. And who knows, maybe they would want to contract Eric to make some of their parts on his equipment...that sounds like a win-win for everyone!Laugh

I would love a 327 Federal caliber in a S&W J frame sized gun with 1.5" to 2" barrel 6 shot all steel or steel and polymer frame revolver. But a standard sized DW in 327 is a winner for me.

First of all a new DW would be great news. I'd prefer a .445 or something in .45 cal. as the 454 Casull. The idea of a small frame - ie J frame size in .32 cal. would have great potential. Especially as a pistol pac. Chambered in .327 mag. so you could use the small boot style grip, or what you'd please. It should be offered as a pac, so it could be carried with a short bbl., for a defensive weapon. I'd prefer it in either a 2" or a 3" bbl with a 5" and a 7" bbl.  It would offer a revolver that could be carried consealed, or with the longer tubes, used for woods bumming or hunting small game. Stainless steel would also be a preference.GoodLuck

Guess I should have said ouch for a gun that states "but when called upon is fully capable

of safely shooting factory ammunition"  Surely CZ can be competative with ruger and

S&W and make a small frame in the $500-$600 range. And the SuperMags could be

close to the S&W X-frame cost wise. Otherwise they will just be an expensive special

order type firearm like the Freedom Arm.
