I think a shotgun brush will work.  I’m glad that the nit came off without issue.

I just ordered a non-ported barrel today.  I shoot a lot of cast bullets so I took everyone’s advice.  Thanks for the info guys!

Gonna be the Odd Man out..since I like Ported Barrels. I personally would just leave it, and Shoot the Snot outta it!! Gonna buy the barrel Wrench anyway (I use EWK personally) may as well use it to clean at the threads after an outing.. Nothing much to it, Long as the ports "match up" at desired B/C gap..!!

My very first DW was an 8" M44 with the ported barrel, circa 1981.  Between the barrel length, porting, and the weight of the gun, it's still far & away the softest-shooting .44 Mag I've ever shot.

Never had any issues with 'fouling', but I've been pretty diligent about shooting only jacketed bullets, and cleaning well after shooting.

Love that ol' revolver!

Regards,

Jim

Actually, the holes in the barrel are not meant to line up with the ports. The 6 holes are for the gases to vent into the space between the barrel and shroud. The DW 44 VH8 is much heavier than a model 29 Smith or a Ruger. Much more recoil with a 4" BA on.
