I am looking for a gunsmith that can fit a new cylinder to my 744. An suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area.

You really want to have DW in Norwich do this work. They will do it right the first time, and just in case it's not right, they will make it right. Almost any local gunsmith will be fighting to learn how to work on a DW.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That is what I figured. Just wanted to know if there was anyone else that could do it. The reason I asked, is I want to convert a 744 to 45 Colt. If they will fit a 45 Colt cylinder then that would be easier than rechambering the existing cylinder.

you need to swap out the barrel also, which will mean you have to rethread the gun or the barrel. Dan Wesson made a point to change the barrel threads between caliber for safety reasons.

I have a place that can turn a barrel for me. I figured it would be easier to do a barrel than trying to rethread the frame. I guess I will speak with the contact at DW and see what they say.

The factory won't fit a .45LC cylinder to a .44 frame. You can ask but I'm sure the answer will be a firm "NO".

I'm sure they won't. There's a potential, since the threads would be suited to the frame, you could end up with a 45 cylinder and a 44 tube. No Bueno...
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....
