I haven't handled too many DW's but the single action let off on my 744 is VERY light.   It runs a little over 1 1/2 pounds on my scale..  Only my K22 Smith comes close to this at a bit over 2 lbs.

Is this normal?   I can't see where anything has been altered in the trigger group and the double action is at least 12 pounds.

I too noticed my .44 mag has a light SA trigger. My .357 model 15 is a little heavier but

still lighter than some other names I have shot. I believe this might be the norm for the

DW's but then again I've only ever owned 3 . Two now and one twenty years ago.

Alot of the DW's were made for competition, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

The whole trigger design is different than other brands for that matter.

One of the expert collectors will chime in soon and straight'en you (and me) out.

My original Monson 15 (bought new over 30 yrs ago) had a fairly stiff single action trigger until I put a spring kit in it.  My current model 40 Monson also had a somewhat stiff single action trigger until I sent it to Heffron for a tune up and it came back light and crisp.  I have fired some other DW's that had light single action triggers, but they had been shot alot and with extensive use they do get lighter. My first gun was practically dangerous in single action after the spring kit, less than 1/2lb pull, I had gotten the target kit instead of the field kit.  I put back the factory trigger return spring and brout up the pull to a safer level for hunting, it was deadly accurate with the ultralight trigger, but would only reliably fire Winchester primers.Range Time

The 1.5# SA on yours is what I would say my 744VH8 is at, seem about normal for the 744 for some reason from every thing I have read over the last few years.

1.5# is at the lighter end of what I've seen, but DW SA runs fairly light

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The SA trigger pull on my 44 measures 2.5 lb.  It seems light too me.  Not sure if I would want it to be less.

For competition 1.5# to 2.5# would be in normal range for most people. For hunting the 2.5# to 3.5# would be the SA trigger pull considered ideal for serious hunter, but I would be more inclined to like a 3# trigger to 4# for hunting.

Thanks guys.

I have owned a lot of handguns and this is the lightest single action letoff I have ever seen.  Some well worn in Smiths I have seen and owned are down around 2 lbs but this one takes the prize.

Like I said.. It doesn't seem that anything is wrong with any of the parts.   The double action is fairly heavy..  off the scale on my 10 lb scale, I would guess maybe 14 lbs.
