When my cylinder is out, the entire thing can slide back towards the grip.  I don't think this is normal because its scratching the sideplate!

You are missing the cylinderstop on the sideplate.

I did something wrong on my DW once, and it made the rod rectract the wrong way... ejected all casings right out when i swung it open. Hell of a time getting it back in with new cases....

Well for one thing it's missing that little half-moon cylinder stop thingy.

You are missing the cylinder stop, a common problem. Here is the info you need to get a replacement part.

Dan Wesson Firearms in Norwich, NY provide parts and service for all Dan Wesson Revolvers (Pork-Chops excluded). For parts contact Genny or Priscilla at 607.336.1174 ext 21 and for service or repairs contact Keith 607.336.1174 ext 24. Genny’s email address is genny@cz-usa.com and Keith’s email address is keith@cz-usa.com.

Unless you box it up and send it to one of us to save your self the trouble. poke

Good luck.

IS the ejector rod even in it?

Looks like the mushroom tip on the ejector rod is probably keeping it from sliding all the way out.

Do as LB suggested & contact the folks at DW, they will get you fixed up. In the meantime, since you need to remove that side plate anyway, I'd take it apart & give the gun a good scrubbing. I see gunk on that crane.wow laugh

Well, all the answers are already posted.... So I'll just say--take the time while you are waiting on that part and strip her down for a good cleaning.

You can see the hole above the trigger. Take the side

plate off install new part, lube while your in there and put plate back on.

I see what you mean.  Someone told me once that the cylinder stop was missing, I mis understood the function and assumed it was the part that comes up after trigger pull under the cylinder to stop rotation beyond the next round.  I knew that was there.  I guess I assumed that hole was there for a reason.  I had to do quite the restore on this gun and a few parts were missing.

Thanks for your help.
