I have a more or less 35 year old 15-2 and i am ashamed to say i have never had the side plate off. I desided to install a lighter hammer spring to see how i and the gun like it . After hearing how rough some insides were . It was interesting to see so little wear there was on the bearing areas of the gun. I have shot many thousands of rounds in it and it looked darn near new, other than a pile of powder residue. Only the front egdes of the hammer sides had any blueing wear.Cleaned it up and  added a bit of pro gold lube to bearing and pivot points and put back together.  Insides of frame are crude but not the moveing parts. Good for another 35 years ,,maybe.

Hmmmm! That means that in another 10 years I better plan on taking the sideplate off of my wife's 715.  Waddaya think?  I bought it in '85.

Actually, I clean all of my guns after every use and I always start by running an AFT/acetone mixture through from both the trigger and hammer.  I just never have taken the sides off any of my small frames.

Oh i figured you do a good cleaning on your handguns. I have used break cleaner and then some break free  the same way. Just remember someone say'n how crude the insides were of his DW. What a suprise, very nice detail work in there with just about no wear. Now i got to get a better understanding of how the 44 comes apart. Only had it about 9 months. I am sure it has never been apart.  Later.
