I have owned a 15-2 .357 and a model 44 for 25 years. Yhe 44 is a great shooting gun with an 8″ barrel. The lock up does not feel the tightest but it shoots very accurately. The 15-2 came with an 8″ barrel which looked to have seen extensive shooting. Actually had worn rifling towards the muzzle end. It has alsways had good tight lock up but a poor DBL action trigger. Some time ago I had trouble with the trigger return and found excessive wear to the trigger were the return spring rides. The DBL action feel is hard to describe but the initial pull when the cylinder is first engaged is not like any revolver I have ever tried, you just know it's not right.  Anyway it has sat for many years until I found this site and a renewed interest to try it again. I purchased an 2.5″ barrel from CZ-USA and a new trigger, mainspring, hand spring and a reduced power trigger return spring. I tried it out prior to installing the new trigger parts and also had some fail to fire issues. Got everything else installed and found the same DBL action feel as before maybe worse. Sorry about the long post But I had hoped someone may have some suggestions beyond a gunsmith. None of the Smiths I have called in this area have any experience with DW and sending it out of state is such a hassle.

What kind of price has DW charged for factory work? I'm not sure if gunsmith work will even be an option right now. Thanks

Call the DW service dept @(607) 336-1174 ext 24, you'll have to leave a message and they will get back to you on weekdays after 2pm eastern time.  Do you knoe an FFL in your area?  They can mail to the dealer at a modest rate, if you need to actually send it in.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have been under the impression that you can mail your gun to the manufacturer for service and receive it back in the mail without going through an FFL licensed gun dealer.

The last time I shipped a pistol was to Ruger; cost $25 FFL fee+ $9 insured shipping.  FEDEX rate $90.  UPS NO, USPS NO, at least that is what they told me when I called.  You don't have to go through an FFL, but it may be cheaper.

Well, my brother just sent his gun in for service.  Where the service center is located in FL, the only service is USPS, no UPS, no FedEx. He just put it in a box, insured it and mailed it.  My gun dealer also says that that is perfectly acceptable when getting your own gun serviced.

Only a ffl dealer can use the postal service to mail a handgun. Registered mail is best. Fed-ex and UPS can ship-they prefer you to take it to a hub location, rather than a remote shipper (ie: Kinko's ,etc). It is legal to ship a firearm (hand gun, long gun) to : Factory, gunsmith service or to yourself (traveling, etc).
