just bought a high standard mark 2 senteniel in 357mag.its in beautiful shape and shoots great .I would love to keep it and maybe get a set of lb grips for it ,but i've noticed that it is

binding when you try to cock it? tried cleaning it and oiling with no luck.when the cylinder is open the action seems smooth as silk/cocks fine. the cylinder has a little bit of play on its pin can move back and forth almost a credit card? seems this is the problem? as when i put a little bit of forward pressure on the cylinder when its closed and i'm cocking it seems to cycle and lock up fine. from what i gather this is a dan wesson without the name,so hopefully someone has some idea. thanks for the help.

Try seltting barrel to cylinder gap at .006 .  There is a  cylinder alignment ball

under spring tention behind the cylinder , don't mistake this as end play.

Binding while cocking on a DW (or Sentinel) can often be traced to a grip screw screwed in too tightly, and binding the mainspring. This can occur pretty easily with a wrong length grip screw, or a grip screw that has deepend the hole in the grip, allowing it to screw in too far.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

just took the gun completly apart and gave it a good cleaning oiled it and put everything back together .it only binds at two holes in the cylinder .going to get a gap tool today and check but it seems that is the problem.when i had the gun apart i closed the action and tried to spin it by hand and it binds at the same spot.would a slight dent or roughing at the front of the cylinder edge do that,as cleaning it i couldn't make it go away. did the gun check ,thanks to the post on here, gun seems in nice shape otherwise, cylinder locks up tight timeing seems good all holes line up.bore is in nice shape.oh other thing i noticed is the tip of the little arm that turns the cylinder is slightly worn on the right side, seems to engage fine, should i be looking for a new one? Where would a guy find this part? also wondering if i take the barrel nut and shroud off does the barrel come out by hand or would it be screwed in pretty tight as this is really not a changable barrel gun i think ?

thanks again for the help ,this is the first double action i've ever messed with.lol

BY the way its not registered so gunsmiths are not exactly an option for me.Screwy

Mobilenut, sounds like you have the issue figured out. The face of the cylinders tend to not be exactly true so you need to set the cylinder gap on the tightest cylinder. The barrels are meant to be changed and will thread in and out by hand once the barrel nut is removed. Do you have a barrel wrench? If not I suggest the one from EWK shown on the right of the screen, or originals can be found on the auction sites. The part you refer to is the hand, and is supposed to be fitted on the edge so it is probably fine, if function is good. good luck and let us know how you come out.

If that's your widest gap, you have almost certainly found your problem.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
