By chance and amazingly I found a box full of these badges on a stall selling Old and antique curiosities, old buttons etc

They are mostly black but some are blue and some red, t20200115_181415.jpgImage Enlarger

he Lady on the stall said her Husband had these badges at least 20 years ago but she did not know where from. They are obviously Dan Wesson though she had never heard of. They are as brand new made of solid brass.

I do not think that they are Grip medallions because there is no post on the back and they are around 1mm larger diameter.

Could be they were for some sort of exhibition or marketing giveaway, perhaps someone can tell me.

Anyway I have fitted blue ones to my 744 Grips and red ones to 715 Grips,

The old medallions from the 744 were brass but from the 715 they were plastic !!!!!!!

I like those.... don't know what the original purpose was, but I like them....

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Intriguing find.  Thanks for sharing.

I replaced my stock grips with factory Sacramentos on the small frames and Combat on the .44.  There are no medallions on any of the three.  The .22 and .44 came with brass medallions with dark (black?) back grounds.  Both guns are in the 79-80 vintage. (Edit: should have said "early 80's")

My 357 came with "plastic" grips and it seems the medallions were silver & gold, made of plastic.  One fell off at some time. Seems they were just glued in.

Yes made from solid Brass and personally I think the colours look great for grips, can't be their original purpose though.

Rupert was kind enough to send me a few of these.  Near as I can measure; the medallions on my factory 44 grips are 0.573" in dia.  The ones from Rupert are 0.620" in dia. and 0.085" thick.  The DW is exactly the same shape.
