Here's my 4" fixed barrel in stainless.  I've cleaned up some of the scratches since this photo; the way they show scratches is one of the only things I don't like about stainless finishes.

Here's the 44 Magnum I found on a online auction last week.

I got a 3” fixed barrel 357 mag, pretty rare I heard, but I don’t know enough about them.69BA4D4E-61EE-4381-8A9C-43B58A29EA50.jpegImage Enlarger

I have a 6inch Palmer stainless 44mag fixed barrel, shoots cloverleaf at 20 yards.love it bought it new in the 80s? Big sob too hard to find leather for it.makes my 686+ smith and Wesson look like a toy,44 specials have no kick like a 22.full bore 2400 and h110 lift the barrel just enough to snag the hammer for the next shot. One thing I've noticed is the fixed barrels have a bevel in the under lug at the front sight.the removable are straight up and down .

That bevel is the dead giveaway when Gunbroker sellers neglect to mention it is a fixed barrel. Fixed barrels are nice guns but I have eschewed them. Kind of like half a Dan. JMHO.

Steyr, the fixed barrels are torqued on and the barrel nut at the muzzle end has either no slots or maybe the rear of the slot is milled off so you can screw it on but not off. I don't know how the barrel is removed at the factory but I have read that the barrel tube is not always reusable. Perhaps they insert a mandril into the barrel that uses the rifling to unscrew the barrel from the frame?

thanx but not sure what u mean by slots removed, barrel liner is threaded on both ends and clockwise im sure or maybe clockwise and counter clockwise for torque but yes the probably used a nylong rifled mandrel to screw on

The slots on a barrel nut that are used to screw it on or off. If you screw it on with a tool but can't remove it if the back of the slots are milled. If you screw on a barrel nut with the slots inside you will have a defacto fixed barrel.
