Hello and Happy New Year

I just wanted to double check, this is a 15 pork chop target, right?

Plastic grip. There is a W in the emblem.

#42431 Can you help me get close on the production date?

Thanks

Technically that is a model 15, but also called a Model 15-1 because of the smaller, High Standard style rear sight. The earlier 15 had the big rear sight of the model 12. The change from 15 to 15-1 happened at serial number 25,000. That would be 1972 or 73. The 15-1 is the same as the High Standard Sentinel MK iii.

Not as attractive as the 15-2  the porkchops were just as accurate and the cylinder slides off when the shroud is off for easy cleaning.

Thanks.

I cannot find a part schematic for a 15 or 15-1 that aligns with the HSS MKiii. Much closer to a 12.

Any thoughts?

Search my name, I posted a link to high standard parts and diagrams some years ago.

The HS mk iii is identical to a DW 15-1. The D W model 12 has a humongous rear sight , the hand spring does not slide into a slot in the rear of the hand in the early guns and they have an exterior muzzle nut except near 10,000 serial number. From 10,000 to 25,000 it is a model 15. It is called a 15-1 from 25,000 to 49,999. The only difference is the smaller rear sight I believe. It is my belief also that Dan Wesson sold their remaining porkchops, both 14 and 15(-1) to High Standard in order to release the 15-2 and 14-2  In 1974. High Standard cataloged the various barrel lengths but never sold any. The Dan Wesson 15-1and 14-1 barrel shrouds are identical to the HS except for the roll mark. However  the earlier 14 and 15 shrouds will not shoot to point of aim on the 14 and 15-1 because the 14-1 has a rear sight cut into the frame and the 15-1 rear sight is lower also.

Thanks for the info. Yes I have been staring at the HSSMK3 schematic.

I did notice the dif hand spring when I changed out the stock springs today for the Wolff  8lb shooter pack. Iit was a little difficult to thumb cock with the stock spring since it felt like you needed to support the butt to stabilize the gun. Better now.

I adjusted the trigger stop screw after a fail to reset on a dry fire.

I am itching to try some DA target shooting. I have never had a gun that was this nice DA.

FYI - It has a model 12 firing pin in it and the spring is deformed.

And with the new FP spring, it needs more power so the 8 lb spring can't get it. I put the stock mainspring back in.

I can't seem to get the cylinder bushing to budge. Shake is minimal anyway. Face of what should be the bushing is somewhat uneven. Thinking it might be pressed in.

I might abandon efforts to lighten the trigger. I need to shoot some with the stock spring and see if I can get used to it.

I didn't shoot the gun with the stock spring in as I was staring at the next gen firing pin and noticed the difference in the pin face profile:20190205_190149.jpgImage Enlarger

I found a new pin to mess with so I changed the profile on the face of the old style pin:

Kinda crude but it made a huge difference with the 8 lb spring. I will cycle us thru a box or two and make sure it is firing on all cylinders  🙂
