Hey everyone,
Got a couple of Dan Wessons, have begun to keep an eye out at local shops for them as they still stand up as great and precise guns. I love both mine.
I'd never come asking "what's it worth?" type questions; I do, however, would like to pick the brain of you other DW fans and see if you've ever come across this.
Notice the intricate engravings? Most pictures I've come across do not have these flourishes and such that appear at the end of the barrel and next to the grip and on cylinder. In addition, it seems to be a very early serial, in the 30's. Was this kind of detail common in Monson in the earlier pistols? Is it possible that this could be a special edition? Here's a picture of the full side:
Any advice or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for taking a look at my baby.

Dave, welcome to the forum and that sure is a nice looking 44 Mag. I don't have any experience with the engraved Dans but I know there will be someone who can set you straight. Certainly is an early s/n so it must mean something.
We love pics so if you have the chance please post some when you have a chance.
Hope you enjoy your time here.

Dave, welcome to the forum. What you have there is a 44 Mag from the first production run of 250 revolvers. There was a second run of 250 revolvers without the engraving if I remember correctly.
One was recently listed on GunBroker and if I recall correctly the ending bid was around $800 in 95% + condition.
Hope this helps!

As Jody said, you have one of the first DW 44's made. They were shipped with a wooden, lined case like this…
They also had a 'letter of authenticity' to go with it…
The "2nd Run" 44's were pretty much the same idea, but not engraved…
And a shot of the accompanying letter…
Congrats on your find, these first 500 unique DW 44's are certainly something of value, IMO.
