Just won a Dan Wesson set with 3 barrels, 2 grips, tools, etc.  The case is a large black plastic attache type (heavy plastic) with egg crate foam and locking aluminum latches.  Have never seen a case like this and there are no markings.  i'm assuming this is just a nice case somebody put the gun and parts in or did DW ever actually issue one looking like this?

Over the years, in its various incarnations, Dan Wesson has furnished an assortment of cases, some custom fitted, some more generic.

My 744 came in a generic case.  My latest 715 came in a case with a custom blown plastic liner.  I've seen custom fitted cases with a yellow satin interior.

Others may be more up to speed on when and what.

One caveat, applies to DW or anyone else's case, if it has egg crate foam, it's often too soft to keep pieces in place during any rough handling and there is risk of two pieces coming into contact.  I've always wished for a stiffer grade of foam.

Yeah, i got lucky.  this was shipped with the gun, an extra grip (since they're not technically "grips" plural), and 2 spare barrels and tools.  i got lucky. nothing banged together and got damaged.

Sounds like you may have either the 2nd gen Porkchop case...

Or the later Palmer case, which I believe was made by American Tourister.

The various DW cases used through the years can be seen starting in post #16 in THIS LINK

I have that exact same Hunter pak case in the photo. The latches turned vertical. My case came with a 44 mag. A 6,8" ported shroud. A 6,8" stainless steel ported barrels. And a 6,8" non ported blue still barrels and 2 grips. And a blue multi tool.

Gary, that's cool! Is yours a Palmer gun?

I found a black American Tourister briefcase shortly after I got my .44 in 2014, and made a Pac case with it. I don't have any good photos of the latches at the moment, but you can kinda make them out here.

Very nice. Those are my favorite cases but be aware the blue foam can melt into a sticky mess. I see you have cloth over it. That is good.
