Here is a copy of email I sent to CZ just now complaining about a grip I ordered from them off their website.

————————————————————————————————-

I ordered a Grip off the CZ website # 20105

  • ROSEWOOD LAMINATE GRIP FOR LARGE FRAME DAN WESSON REVOLVERS
  • WITH FINGER GROOVES
  • GRIP SCREW INCLUDED
  • CLOSEOUT PRICING – NO REFUNDS, RETURNS OR EXCHANGES
These grips were $69.95 and are not for a LARGE FRAME DW Revolver as the have a square hole instead of round hole. I own a Model 15, Model 715, Model 722, and a Model 744 and this grip will not fin any of the guns I own. These are 3 small frame guns with the square tang and 1 large frame round tang, are you selling factory rejects as first line items on purpose? I realize it says no refunds but this is stupid.
By the way I also own 4 CZ rifles and was planning on owning another in near future, but that can always change. What is bad I really wanted a pair for my Model 715, but decided my large frame 744 would be nice with the 4″ barrel & shroud installed. Then I opened the package and see square hole and think wow they made a mistake in my favor and sent a small frame grip. Well I about lost it when I discovered the the grip was cut wrong and would not fit a small frame either.

Yes to say that I am a bit upset is putting it mildly, I hope you have plans on setting about correcting this problem. If any questions feel free to call or email me.
—————————————————————————-
Should  I have waited and checked here to make sure I am correct about the two frame sizes?  Man I saw the the square hole and about leaped out my chair to run to my gun safe to get the 715 out.  Then I discover the hole is not deep enough fot the grip to come all the way up, and I about lost it and grabbed the phone and accidently called DW and left a ciomplaint but said it was ok because I have new 715 I would look nice on and hung up. Now I have to call DW and say sorry for stupid mistake of calling DW instead of CZ for sure. I will have to send Keith a link to this page so he can have a chuckle.

Well, I busted the square tang myth a while back with a e-mail to Hogue grips... I bought a Hogue SQUARE wood finger groove grip for my 715...It didn't fit anywhere close.  So I sent them a polite e-mail....Their large frame grips all have square holes even though they fit round tangs!  They were great and said to send it back and they would send me the correct grip for my 715.

But, since I was getting the 744 I held off on sending it back to Hogue.  Well, it fits the 744 perfectLaugh.

We can never trust the holes again.

The bad news is they are drop dead gorgeous and would love to keep them if they fit something, but they don't.

I have a set as well with the square hole.  With a little persuasion the round tang went into the square hole.

That's pretty odd that DW themselves would do the square hole on a large frame grip trick. It's one thing for Hogue to do it, but DW? Screwy  Anyway, let us know how this turns out.Smile

My guess is Hogue was actual manufacture of the grip. Just CZ at KC didn't know the difference.

I was thinking the exact same thing--subcontracted out to Hogue.  I still think it is odd...isn't it easier to drill a round hole than to CNC a square one...Screwy

I believe Hogue grips are made from two pieces. They machine a left and right piece and glue them together. This may not always be the case, but all the Hogue grips I have seen are done are done this way. That would make a square hole actually easier to produce than a round one.

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

Guys,

Unless you see something on the CZ \ DW Online Store that is on sale I would suggest contacting Genny or Priscella at Dan Wesson in Norwich.  Below is a link to their contact info:

It was a sale.

I have got it to fit but I can't get the screw to catch as it is a little off center.  Man this is being a PIA that I though I would not be going through because of buying from the manufacture.

Will keep all posted as to outcome.

I had the exact same problem trying to get mine on--wanna know the solution..?  Get a bigger screwdriverLaugh.  No kidding, mine didn't want to seem to line up with the threads and I was having fits.  I was using a nice light screwdriver--so, I grabbed a screwdriver that just fit in the grip hole, and it went on with the first attempt.

Well after a little reaming, sweating, reaming, and making discouraging remarks about manufactures in general it is on and looks great. Will take a couple days before I work up nerve to remove and put the Pachmayr Decelerator grips back on for range use.

Got to take some of all my DW's this week if I can get too it. I have my wife's old car up on jack stands about 3 weeks ago and had a heat stroke that I am still trying to get over. Man at 64 that was a lot worse then when a kid in the jungles of SE Asia or South Carolina. In other words I am backed up on everything.

I really want to get a picture of the 744 with the Marlin 1894P with its little 16.25″ barrel and the 744 with the 8″ barrel and fancy grips.
