It needs to be cleaned out, if you are able to get the cylinder open on the side of the crane will be a small allen screw take it out and the latch and spring will come out the top. I am not sure if you can over tighten the screw to make it bind but hat might be it also. If the cylinder is stuck shut you will have to tap down on the latch with something to get it to release.

Thanks Dave.  The gun was thoroughly cleaned and packed in a ziplock bag for the past 10+ years.  I'll try tapping on the release.  I can see a set screw with what appears to be red lock tight just below the eject rod.  Is the allen screw to which you referred?

Thanks again.  I got it released.  Actually, the cylinder was very tight.   I was expecting the release to travel further than it does.

Do you have the barrel wrench and gauge? You should set the gap at .006 this will keep it from binding as you shoot and some grud forms on the front of the cylinder.

And yes that is the allen screw right by the ejector rod. Here is a good article on the gun.

What is a real bite is I need a new hammer spring and DW only sells it as part of hammer assembly to an FFL same as they do with cylinders. The same excuse was given, `To stop people that didn't know what they are doing' and I don't buy that statement because this gun is too simple for anyone to have a problem.

I was even told that the Magnum and LR cylinders can not be switched out because of timing problems. All I can say is BS, they have to be made the same way and will interchange because the case diameter and rim are same size as Long Rifle, if they were not then my S&W model 48 22 WMR with a LR cylinder would not work.

Now I did order a new firing pin and spring as this is most likely the real cause of the trouble I am having (light strikes and some FF) and it is a little harder to fix then the 10 minute hammer spring replacement.
