Hey guys this is mike from CA. Finally got my 744occasion had checked out by a smith and had an action ,trigger and polish job done, works really good ,around 3lbs single and 6 or so for the double action pull.Right now I've got a ten inch barrel that came with it ,perfect for the hunting but not so much for just packen, was looking at the 4" barrel ,does any one have both ,the comp and the standard, and is there a big enough diff. to get the compansated vrse the standard.

Fine looking 44!!

I think the large frame 44 is heavy enough it does not need the compansated barrel even in a 4", but that's just me.

I agree that you probably don't need a comp barrel, plus I think a comp 4" will actually be 5" long, kind of getting out of the carry-ability neighborhood.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Hey Mike,

Congratulations on your purchase!  I have both the VH10 and VH4 barrel and shrouds.  I absolutely love shooting the 744 with the VH4 installed.  My VH4 has the old style porting which does little in my opinion.  As Tigger stated the DW 44's have enough bulk that I would just go with non-ported version.

Sounds good ,the comp. barrel also needed another barrel wrench, another 40+ bucks,so the grand total would be like buying another gun...just for the barrel ,shroud, and extra wrench, think Ill go with the standard VH4 ,thanks for the input guys....DWF Sign
