When I had my fixed barrel converted to the interchangeable system I wanted DW to bob the hammer. They told me it may not have enough weight to reliably pop primers and recommended having a heavier DAO bobbed hammer installed. That's what I did.
I posted this before I read the link. Seems like he has a handle on it. The hammer from DW is very reliable. It is not a flush fit though, but does not snag on the draw.

After some thought and talking to a few I decided against doing this. I am sticking with a 6" barrel if I was going with a 2 or 4" I would do this.
Thanks for your thoughts on this though.

Since it was 20 degrees and snowing here today.... I knew I would have the range to myself 
...
I took the Bobbed CCW DW to the range and played around a little....
First of all--full power factory 357's out of the snubby with the Shootist grips will wake you up !!! I was just out having fun, so the target was a turkey head at 7 yards....
Slow controlled fire was it's usual tack driving accuracy--When I when into true combat fight or flight mode the groups opened up.
Drawing from the CCW holster isn't real easy in a heavy winter coat, but it is doable. I ran the full 6 rounds as fast as I could reasonably recover. Round 1 was always dead on, but as I rapped them off, my hits went high every time. All still kill shots, just not cloverleafs.
Guess I need more practice time with the short barrels !!!

Where does one get a spare hammer to do it as you say? Last I knew they would only install a hammer but would not sell one outright. I'd love to have one to bob and a stock one as well. I'd ned stainless for my 715. I know very well how to install one and how to time a revolver, having done many.
With the short barrel, mine just begs for a slicked hammer.

Parts kits (stripped out of a destroyed frame) are sometimes available on GunBroker. Numrich might also be a possible source, as well as a gunsmith/FFL.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks Steve. I checked Numrich before I even asked here and they don't have any hammers right now. I'm not in that big a hurry. I'll check Gunbroker.
I don't see an issue with the stock hammer spring being weak. If it is, Wolffe can fix that, or one could of course stretch a stock spring or stack a spacer spring under it. I've bobbed plenty of snubby hammers over the years and only had on issue and that was from a used Smith J-Frame hammer I bought that had been, um, "stoned" on the sear. THAT made a dangerous gun! Of course, if you set it up as DAO, it isn't much of an issue.
LONG time ago I tried to have the Norwich people replace all the nickel plated innards of an old Monson 715 with pure stainless for me and they just really must not have wanted to job because we just couldn't link up for a work order. So I dropped it. Still would love to do that.
Haven't been on this forum for over a year since the CZ critters PO'd me so bad I just gave up on all things Dan Wesson. I came back tonight to snoop because I heard CZ is making the 715 again. Anyone know anything about the new ones? Any good? Any parts retro?
Good to see you and a few other older-rimers on here still. The DW just can't be left to die.

Back in the 80's a large number of S&W pistols with 4 inch barrels were bob tailed for law enforcement and later sold at gun shows for about 250.00. I guess they didn't go over so well. The price was good though.
