Hi,

I recently acquired a DW 715.  Nice revolver but there are some markings on the barrel shrouds and the serial number which I find odd.  Basically all four of the stainless barrel shrouds have a "01" heavily stamped into them.  Also, the serial number on the main weapon has a heavily stamped veritcal line inbetween the first three and last three digits.  To me this does not look factory.  Does anyone have any idea or information concerning these?

I have included two photos showing the items described above.  Any help or guidence is greatly appreaciated.

Thanks, BRett

I saw the 01 in your original post and was curious about it. I doubt it's factory, possibly something done by a misguided previous owner

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Those are really strange markings, especially the vertical bar in the middle of the SN.  I can't imaging the origin, but i bet none of them is a factory marking.

I've never seen a / in a serial number....  Could just be an odd DW.

Maybe the previous owner had so many 715's that he numbered the components to the frame to keep track of them, i.e. a "1" in the s/n and a "01" on the shrouds for 715  #1?  That would be a problem if you had so many 715's that you'd have to do that. Guy must have had a mega case of DWAS if that is what was done.  Ya can't have too many DW's rofl.

I agree I don't think that's factory either.  I have Norwich 445 SuperMag and thought if I get additional shrouds to have the serial number etched on the bottom of the shroud... not sure why though. Screwy
