Hi Everyone,

I have a 4" 714 am having some misfire issues. Single action works just fine but double action is misfiring more often than not. I do use hand loads and on misfires it is clear the firing pin is not striking the primer hard enough. I use the same rounds in my S&W 686 and it never fails to fire. I was hoping someone may be able to help me work out the problem ? is there an adjustment I can use for the firing pin ? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank You & stay safe

Mike

Someone may have replaced the hammerspring with a lighter one or cut coils off the factory spring. The factory spring is 9lbs. Wolff springs are 8 and 7.5 lbs. They both can result in light strikes with some ammo. Especially the 7.5 lb spring. The first thing to do though is try several different brands of ammo. That may do the trick.

Oh, you may also have dirt in the firing pin cavity.

Thanks Ole Dog,

I will try some factory rounds and some hand loads with different primers as well. In addition I will check the firing pin cavity for dirt.

Thanks again and stay safe

Mike

I know my 715 gets light strikes in DA with CCI primers. Winchester primers seem to be 100% though.
