I purchased a 744 many years ago. It is a 6" VH with a ported shroud. The barrel is not ported. I was looking to purchase another 6" VH 744 that was advertised locally. When I called to ask a few question about the gun I was told it had a ported shroud but not a ported barrel. I was also told that all 44's that had a ported shroud had a second barrel included which was ported. Is this true?

The 44 mag packs had two different barrel lengths in the packs correct? So if I look at purchasing a 44 mag pack in the future each shroud length should include two barrel tubes, 1 ported and one not?

Does that mean most 44 mag shrouds are ported?

One more question, is a 445 super mag barrel tube and a 44 mag barrel tube the same thing? Or are the threads different?

the ,445 and 44mag are the same caliber, but be careful not to put a ported barrel in the ,445 SM that is not ported.occasion

The 10 inch barrels were not ported. Just the 4,6 and 8 inch shrouds on Monson guns. I believe on Palmer and later they were not ported but I am not 100 sure.

Another not too obvious fact:  A 445 barrel shroud will work on a 44 but a 44 barrel shroud will not work on a 445 because of the 445's longer ejection rod.
