I bought my first DW revolver, a 357. It has the original DW grips. They are wood with diamon checkering. They have some scuffs and dings and I don't like the feel of this type grip.  I am going to get Houge grips and "customize" the DW grips. Is this a good idea? Are the DW grips worth ant thing?

As to value ofth DW grips... they are worth something... only because they are not in production, though I think some are still available from CZ.

Were it me...

Go ahead and buy a Houge..but save the ole DW, and then LB make you a brand new custom grip.

Yep .. I done did all that!!!

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

If you have zebrawood grips I would not modify them.  However if you have any of the other grips I see no harm if they are already beat up.  In case you don't know this the medallions can be removed from the grip by pushing them out from behind.  This way if you do any sanding it will not harm the medallions.

I also second Pinetor advice on ordering a custom set from LB.  Here is a link to some info about his grips.

Thanks for the info. The DW grips still have good checkering. I will save that. However the finish is chiped and I want to strip that and maybe do some minor contour sanding.

I will refinish with an oil stain and no varnish. I don't like a slick finish.
