Easy way to make cheap 44 bullets from 40 S+W fired cases. My CCW is 40 S+W cal. so i just pick up the emptys when im done practicing. I fill the empty brass from a bottom pour furnace, getting a bullet that weighs about 264 grs. This is what they look like after filling.[Image Can Not Be Found]

That's cool -- I shoot empty 9mm cases out of my 410 shotgun. Just use a primer and no powder and you can plink in the back yard.

Man, that's something I would have never thought of.
I have about the same concern that Jaggman posted...do they eat up a barrel's rifling?

I have done some crazy things in thereloading room but never anything likethis. What does this do for you that a regular 44 mag mold does not?

Hey fellas, just being frugal here. I dont buy jacketed bullets much anymore,so heres a way to make my own cheap. I do have a 44 mold which i cast lots from. There is huge write-up on this subject over on Greybeard Outdoors. I figured what the hell, i have lots of time on my hands. This is just brass goin down yer barrel, no cause for concern, you'll die of old age long before you harm a barrel. Ill be scrounging all the 40 brass i can now. In the last pic i bet you can tell which bullet was hollow-point

You had to post this and consume my evening. I was mulling over the possibilities and problems. First is that brass from the range probablly varies in diameter after being shot. I know my glock has that moon bulge at the base where it is unsupported. How can I size the case to .430? I tried running the case all the way up my rcbs seating die. It puts a long taper crimp for about the first 1/4 of the case then it tapers slightly from 429 to 430. Next how can I get a consistent pour or case fill. My freind robert suggested a cast ball of specific weight and melting that into the case. I then though you might be able to take 2 cast 9mm wad cutters around 115g slide them into the case and pop them in the oven? Another method might be to fill them like you did with a meniscus and then come back and trim it. You could make a spade type drill and trim the edge and hollow point the center? can't wait to try this.

I picked up about 500 short and weak at the rang last fall. I don't use them so this may be a way use them up.

Because of glocks "tainting" the brass supply, Redding makes a push through sizing die for 40 S&W & 10mm. This should get you back to a uniform diameter.
The die is called a Rx40 or something.

I keep hearing of "Glock smiles", I haven't noticed it on my 10mm brass, maybe I should look closer.

The ejected brass from my Bersa Firestorm is in perfect shape, no buldges and perfectly round case mouths. If i didn't have a bottom pour furnace, i wouldn't bother doing this no matter how much time i have to waste. Nice score on that brass DrSparky ! I can fill 40 of these cases bout as fast as i can cast 40 boolits from a double cavity mold. I do have 2 problems to solve yet. I gotta get with my machinest friend to make me a die to form a nose so im not shooting wadcutters. That is easy to make if ya have the machinery. 2nd is if you have'nt noticed, these bullets have no crimp-groove to keep bullet from slipping case under recoil. By the 3rd shot any remaining rounds in yer 6 gun, will be dumping there loads in yer chambers ! If i can find lots of brass at the local police range than i will just buy a channelering tool. ( i guess thats what ya call it to put crimp-groove in bullets ) Dam, wonder if a little loc-tight might keep em in there...lol...Have fun fellas cause i sure am + thats what its all about !

Oooh they're there! I get Glock guppy'd brass in my Les Bear 10mm and it will lock up tight.

OK, I have two questions and don't laugh too hard if they sound silly.
First, How about bullet obturation (probably spelled that wrong) I don't think a 40 S&W case will do that. Does it matter?
second, what does a Glock do to taint the brass? Hadn't heard that one yet. Not a Glock guy, but I do scarf up any brass I can find laying around.
