Ok you guys, I've heard that the 30.30 Win cases are the weakest link of the alternate .375 SM case selection...but I had understood that if there were a weakness in using these, it would present itself at the bottom of the case. Maybe not so?

Out of fifty 30.30 cases that have been loaded & shot (their 1st time) as .375 SM, all cases were tumbled, then I have 7 that came through the sizing/de-priming die wearing little dimples near the top. I have a hunch that this may work itself out after a few more firings, but I thought I'd ask for opinions from you select few that may have already been down this road.wink laugh

I hope this pic shows what I'm talking about...

They have 3 different head stamps, so I'm betting that not all of them are from the same manufacturer.

Lube dents.

Try using less lube, make sure the die vent hole is not plugged up.

Thanks man, I was guessing that I wasn't using enough lube on a few of these. maybe I went overboard on these. laugh These tapered .375 cases seem to be really finicky when it comes to lube…especially when there's not enough of it.lol2 squeeeak!surprisedbig-grin

So these 7 should be ok to load?

CF,

IHMSA hit it right I am sure.  I have never had that happen with the 375SM, but it happens to me when I overlube bottle rifle cases and get too much lube up at the neck, the dies do not have any tolerance for the extra lube and therefore deform the case, just load and shoot them and they will come out straight again.

With all the work required to make 375 cases, I only use the same headstamp brass. After that, all the brass stays together as a "lot". Also, I believe the BEST lube to use for case forming is Imperial Sizing Die Wax. Just my 2 cents worth, don't overpay.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll load 'em & shoot 'em.range-time

I'll have to make sure I clean out the die after each use, so I don't end up with lube buildup. Maybe I'll experiment with applying the lube further down on the case, they seem to get tightest about halfway down, so I probably don't need much lube at the top. I'll also look for some of that Imperial lube next time I'm at the gun store.
