Has anyone tried loading up 35 (358) caliber 180 or 200 gr rifle bullets in their 357 supermag?  I could not get to sleep last night and thought about this in bed.  I thought it would make a good long range (200 - 300 yards) target load to bang some steel.  Let me know what you think.

I know guys that use them in 357 max Contender and Encore barels with good success.

In a revolver you would have to seat them deep in the case to fit the cylinder that I don't think the gain from the bullet profile would help overcome the powder reduction.

First of all... wecome to the DWF Sign...Please stop in the new members section and tell us a little about yourself.  I used to load all kinds of heavy bullets in revolvers, just because I had them sititng around.  I had to lighten the load quite a bit due to increased seating depth, but they worked well.

The older .357SM's had a slower twist that wouldn't stabilize the Hornady 200 grain Spire Point. They usually WOULD stabilize the Hornady 200 grain RN. Some of the silhouette shooters would trim their SuperMag brass short so they could use the crimping groove on the bullet.

I've used both bullets with fair success on the round nose. The older Speer 180 and 200 TMJ's were great, the Hornady 180 Silhouette is still about the best I've found for 200 meter handgun silhouette.
