I ran into a guy who used to work quality control at DW. He had this gun produced for his father by Dan Wesson himself and the serial number reflected the gift to his father.DSCN1200.JPGImage Enlarger

Pretty interesting info. DW did some interesting personalized S/N's in the Monson days.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

He told me they also made personal guns for Shaquille ONeil and Kevin McHale.

My favorite is CELTIC 17, purchased by as a gift to Boston Celtics star John Havlicek (# 17). Transferred on 12/26/1978, and given as a gift (by a private individual) to "Hondo" on his retirement from the NBA.

There was a group of people with a DW connection that purchased custom serial numbered guns in the early 70's into the early 80's

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

That would be the gift for the guy who has everything?! I had to wait the best part of a year before the gentleman would sell the gun to me as it obviously had some personal value to him. I appreciated him parting with it!

Very cool story and a neat gun to have in your collection.  Also good that you got the back story on it from the original buyer.

Hi is kind enough to write the story and have it notarized for provenance. This one won't leave the case.
