Picked up a Palmer 445 Alaskan Guide, in the numbers matching box, with all the papers, tool and even a vintage wall mount hook confused under the foam.  Its been fired, which is good, I won't feel bad shooting it now, but its in great condition.  It was a gtdw to boot!  Good 'ol number 29.  I think we have a nice group of low number Palmer AGS guns on the forum, rwsem and Steve's son have stable mates to this one I believe.

Is the sight blade actually in the middle of the shroud?

That's a nice find there - the AGS guns don't show up very often.

Yes, the compensated barrels have the front sight mounted behind the ports.

Interesting - I'd welcome more pics of this, please.

Very nice- you'll love shooting it!  a comped 445 is the bees knees. The one I own is a Norwich (the only Norwich in the stable). #469

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Yes, Andrew (freerider04) has a pretty low s/n .445 SM

NIB, unfired when he bought it. Originally sold to a guy that put it away in his safe and then traded it in on something he wanted more (?). Technically, I was the second owner, it transferred to me via purchase, and then to him. 3 days after I posted about this on DWF, a package showed up in my mail from Jody with .445 brass, "unfired" condition bit the dust pretty quickly after that.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I load my own since store bought is almost unheard of.  The 445 uses standard 44 cal bullets, I like 240 FMJ, and either large magnum pistol primers or large rifle primers, both easily had and common powders like H110.  Starline makes brass for these and I have a fair supply so all in all, it's not cost prohibitive to shoot the 445.  The only super mag that is hard to load for is the 375, brass is almost nonexistant and bullets are scarce.  So it is a loaders only cartridge but if you have brass, it's also not bad on a cost per shot basis.
