Some on the forum may know about Dan Wesson personalized serial numbers? I purchased a 744 pistol pac and the serial number on the frame is POL-1989. I assume that either the original owner initials may have been POL and the gun may have been a gift for a retirement etc in 1989. From what I have read all custom serial numbered Dans were recorded to original owner. With a unique serial number like the Dan I own it may have a story to tell. The gun was pretty much unused when I purchased it. Not anymored, I buy ‘‘em to shoot ‘em.

Every time Dan Wesson went through a bankruptcy or change of ownership all the records of the company became property of the BATF. That was pre digital Era. The paper records are in Warehouse 13. You are, allowed to make any story up you want too.
