This beauty popped up locally just in time for Christmas!   After talking to Keith @ DW, I decided to get it.  Including the prototypes, only 307 were made.   Extra 50th grips were a bonus!

There is one on guns International price is $4095 It also says all offers are being considered. how much did you pay for yours? Just an idea so others maybe looking for one does not over pay! I'm guessing around $3000 but I know your hood at getting great deals!Screenshot-2024-01-03-4.46.08-AM.pngImage Enlarger

I would say that $3000+ has been the going rate.  I have bees watching for a couple of years.   I paid less.

I sent a offer to the one on Guns International. It's listed for $4099 I offered $2400 and got a reply. He will take $3000 shipped no tax. Still a bit too high for me but if anyone wants it maybe you could get them down to $2800?

That's a nice looking 1911 and it looks like it is very finely finished.  The bluing certainly makes it look like a showpiece.   I wonder though about the build of the gun and if the price of the gun is all in the finish, machine engraving and grips.  There's a lot of guns you can buy out there for $3k.  The faux Ivory grips are about $100.  The master blue finish runs $500 at Ford's.....take it from there.

S&W does a nicely "dressed up" stainless 1911 in a nice wood presentation case.....for a fraction of the price.  Flat/serrated slide top, checkered front strap, machine engraving, Novak type rear sight.  A completely different gun....but if anyone is interested let me know.

So the finish is a High Gloss Black Nitride.   It it the same as Bluing?   My local GS says no, and he does not do that finish.   I am trying to fine someone who does for a dream project.

The Bluing and Nitride are different finishes but I am not sure of the advantages/disadvantages of each.  That must be how they get that deep black finish.  I do believe Nitride finishing is more durable than traditional hot salt bluing.  Whatever the project is, the underlying surface preparation of the material will determine how it's going to look after the process is applied.  If you want it to look like a mirror after the process is applied, it needs to look like a mirror before it's applied.  This includes any and all surface nicks, dings and scratches no matter how fine or small they may appear.  If you can see an imperfection before the finishing process, it's likely you'll see after the finishing process is applied.

You can find several Black Nitride finishers online.......just do a search "Black Nitride Guns".  You'll need to figure out what is required to get that mirror-like finish if that's what you're looking for.

The S&W looks great but it's not a Dan Wesson! I am not a big fan of any Dan Wesson 911's myself I don't think of them in the same way as the revolvers due to the history but if I were going to invest in a Dan Wesson 911 it would be the 50th Annv, it's just damm right beautiful! Most of the newer guns would have to be a limited edition to invest in. I do have some semi auto's but they're for protection not for collection. Even my cheap Taurus G2 runs fine and I trust it never had a problem and it was $200 that's my car gun. If I could get one of those Dan Wesson 50th for a price around $2200 I would be all over that! The way the DW is on the back and front of the gun looks so good! It's just like the new Colt Pythons they are beautiful but they will never be worth what a pre 2000 Python is worth. Well maybe in 50 years! I should not comment on S&W guns I really do not know much about them but there are so many 911's out there. guess I will always like a wheel gun better than a auto.

My first firearm was a Ruger 1911 in 2012. When I started collecting Dans I tried not to buy more 1911s. There is no end to collecting 1911s or S&Ws. I have 2 S&W Performance Center guns that are awesome. Briley barrel bushings. I have one Bob Serva era 1911. Tight as a drum, while the Ruger is loose as a goose. They both have similar triggers and accuracy. I have several others such as a Colt Defender and 3 RIA 22TCM/9MM with 18+1 capacity. I love them all. No CZ 1911s though.
