So until today, I have never seen a Palmer Fixed Barrel style roll marked shroud out there as an optional BA for a 715 gun. Or a 15-2, for that matter. However today on GB, there is such an animal...

Until today, these shrouds were presumed to be used exclusively on the Palmer FB guns, much like my pair here...
These shrouds are usually easily identified from across the room as FB shrouds from the small cutouts in the heavy lug at the front. However, today this anomaly came up on my GB radar...as seen in pic #1, this is clearly NOT a FB BA.
Another classic case of "just when we think we have it all figured out...then, BAAM"! 
I hope one of the Wesson boys pops in here at some point to help explain this one. Was it a "fire sale" type of thing? A special order? Some employee who found one lone stainless 6" shroud in the trash heap & said "hey, mill down the front of this shroud for me"? Enquiring minds wanna know.

no idea why one would mill off the end of a standard shroud.... Maybe they just liked the look.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

The shroud in question appears to be a 4" Standard, but the milling is out of place. Wish we could measure the length to know for sure.
Aren't FB's in odd lengths (3", 5", etc.) ?

I saw that too but was not surprised. I have a 3" FB type that I acquired on eBay. It appears to never have been mounted. I have seen several over the years but 3" is not a standard interchangable length. I think they did sell them separately. A 4" could have been removed from a FB and a barrel tube and nut acquired but not a 3". That makes me think they could have been bought from the factory. I have a blue Heavy 3" Norwich BA without the sloping muzzle too. All things are possible it seems. Especially with Palmer and Norwich guns.

Yes, most are odd lengths, but I have seen a scant few (only 2 if I recall) in even lengths too.
Ole Dog, you are right, pretty much all things were possible at some point, it seems.
Ron, maybe milling the end of the shroud makes it easier to holster? I dunno...

I have seen several of them too! When I first see them I say "there is a fixed barrel gun" but then when I see a pic from the front it has a barrel nut so they are out there. Every one I have seen are Palmer guns!

I noticed this one also and it took me several scrolls through the photo's to understand what was going on! When I have a moment I'll post a pic of one I acquired that is quite unusual....I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever seen one.

Charger Fan, here's a blue Palmer 44mag hunter pac 8 Compensated fixed barrel with factory scope mounts and no milling for a front sight blade and unfluted cylinder.
I should have cleaned it for pics, but it's late. I keep all my guns oiled while in storage.

Wow thats nice! It looks like a Deerhunter or Elkhumter of some sorts. A fixed comp barrel.

It came in a really unusual pac case too. I'll have to grab a pic of that too.
I believe its an Elk Hunter pac.

I sure don't recall seeing a pac case like that before, so thanks for sharing pics of that, too! I like the engraving on the frame of your gun, that's pretty neat. I have seen pics of large frame FB compensated guns in the past, Dean Grua (IHMSA80x80) had one, and I think another member besides yourself has one, too.
In my comment above in post #8, I was trying to imply (and failed miserably) that I don't recall seeing a large frame gun with a heavy barrel (non-comp), similar to the 715 BA at the top of this thread. Here is an article showing there was at least one of them made...

I decided to search the 
a bit, to see if there are any large frame standard shroud FB guns...I found one so far, post #13 in the thread below.
Aaand, now that I see these pics, I'm pretty sure I've seen these for sale in the past on various sites. I just wasn't able to snag one at the time. I must be getting old, my brain is picking & choosing things to remember.
