Had a good time checking out some heavy hunting loads in the V40 and the 741.  I REALLY need a fiber optic site for the V40.  I didn't take the 15-2 with an 8" vent and Millet rear sight and EWK green fiber optic front sight.  That is also an option for this upcoming firearms season, still have a doe tag.

Gotta go with the 41 magggie; great deer cartridge and you have the FO sight dialed in.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I think it depends on the weather and terrain. If there's a chance you'll get it wet or have to scramble over some slopes, take the 741. If it's going to be a bright, beautiful, easy-walking day, I think you should take the opportunity to get one of the blued guns some sunshine. Have you taken deer with each of them before?

Good luck with the decision. I hope you're successful on Monday. If I see a guy walking around the woods with three Dans, I'll stop over to chat.

Drop from a limb with a big knife like Tarzan. Then after you stab its heart,  knock it on the head with the 741. Don't forget the victory yell.

Wow you Florida Boys sure take a different approach to deer hunting lol!

Either revolver would fit the job well. I would opt for the 741, I think the FO front sight could be a big benefit, I would have trouble seeing the front sight on the m40 in the woods. And stainless is less of a worry when foul weather arises. But swap out that nice wood grip for the Pachmayr, too easy to scuff up a grip on the side of a tree, briars etc. Good luck, and be sure to post pics.

You know, I think the weather will ultimately be the deciding factor in which one I choose.  I have not yet taken a deer with a revolver.  I am out a lot during the archery season and got a buck with my bow this year.  I have been waiting for a gun season to use a revolver and this year will finally be the year I actually try.  I have one DMAP tag for Michaux State Forest near Shippensburg and can hunt that place first week, but can only use my 5B (Harrisburg) doe tag 2nd week.  The entire state is buck only first week this year.

What will you be hunting with on Monday? and where will you be hunting?

If I go out, it will be here at my farm.  I'll use either my 741VH 10 or a 7445 VH 8.  Too many houses around for rifles so pistol or slug gun are the only choices.

What loads are you using in your 741 and your 7445?  I know you are kind of close to me somewhere in Central PA.  I have read your posts about shooting at Trops range.

For the 445 I like 240 gn fmj over 30.5 gn H 110.  In 41 nag I like 210 gn fmj driven by 21 gn H 110.  I find better penetration with solid bullets over hollow points.

Bayou Bullets hi-tek supercoat.  Made the switch to hi-tek coat a few years back.  Much less smoke than the lube on hard cast bullets.

I'm taking my 740 out on Monday, and I'm hunting some thick areas of State game lands in 2A. I think I'm going to limit my range to 40 yards with the revolver. I filled my 2A doe tag during archery season, so I'm just looking for a buck at this point. I just loaded up a few of those polymer-coated bullets from Missouri bullet company, and I'm excited to see how they do on deer. How far do you trust yourself to take a shot with your revolvers?

Dan Wessons ruled Silhouette shooting until they changed the rules to allow Freedom Arms Revolvers. The  desert ram is 200 yards out. Way beyond my range, but possible. Those big Pennsylvania deer may be too stout for that range but I think 100 yds would be lethal. With that said, If I was hunting I would not trust my aim over 50 yards but the cartridge is capable of a longer shot, IMHO.

I will most likely be shooting the 41 mag on Saturday at some PA Doe if one happens to walk by.  The front fiber optic sight is really the deciding factor.  No way my eyes will allow me to shoot open sights at 100 or 200.  I wear bifocals and depending on the light it is very hard to get a good sight picture with the rear and front sight and still see the target.  My 15-2 with 8" vented has a fiber optic front and a Millet rear sight and this is really nice for my eyes so I still might consider taking the 357 mag as well.  I am confident in both with the proper hunting bullet and powder charge.  I just need to make the shot either gun will work if I get the bullet to the boiler room.  I will be keeping my shots to 50 yards and under with open sights.  I only practiced at 25 and 50 yards and 50 would be just about my absolute max distance.  I have only practiced on paper targets but feel good at 50 and in, basically will be handgun hunting with the same approach I archery hunt.  I know my limits and I hunt enough to know when to take an ethic shot and how to let a deer either get closer or walk out of my life without taking a bad shot.
