Since the shooting season started, I have been able to get out to the range a few times, and some of my Dan Wessons also made the trips. The first one was the 741-SRS.

This one has worn the special DWCA grip make by lbruce, but I noticed over the winter, it has a small crack in it. Not wanting risk breaking it, I replaced it with the factory Hogue grip. Had to re-zero the gun at all silhouette distances, so that was the first one. Turns out it wasn't too far off. The next one was my original DW, the 740-V8S.

Nothing special to do with this, but I wanted to shoot it for old-times sake, as it was the gun I shot my first 40x40 in the Revolver category with. Just a bit of warmup on our range gongs at 200 meters, getting ready for silhouette season to start. Here's a view of our range on a regular day, not a silhouette day. That is the 200 meter berm with the orange gongs, the black ones are at 300 meters.

Then, this week, I took 2 more out, the .44 Magnum and the .414 SuperMag. Since I traded my .444 Marlin last summer for...what else...a Dan Wesson (the PM7-10 10mm), I had lots of .44 bullets that I pulled. Many of them I can use for silhouette, but there were a lot of 300 grain bullets. I don't really need to shoot them on the rams, since my normal 250 and 265 grain bullets do just fine, but I didn't want to just give them away. So, I loaded them just for plinking at our 200 and 300 meter gongs. Man, that was a lot of fun! Those loads were pretty accurate from the bench, I may need to reconsider using them, for those pesky, hard-set rams.

The .414 SuperMag also endured a grip change...went back to the original Hogue grip which sat in the box since 1995. It just seemed like the right thing, since this is a somewhat rare gun.

I started to check the zero's at 100 meters, and they were only 2 clicks different from the wood grip, the rest of the distances were the same click changes I have always used. Now it was time to have some fun. Set up on the bench, I started blasting away at the 200 meter targets. Didn't take long for a couple of my friends to wander over to my bench and see what I was making so much noise with. After examining the DW, I offered to let them try it out. Both of them enjoyed it so much, with regular hits at 200, that we ended up going through an entire 100-round box of ammo. Nothing but smiles on their faces. It was nice to get out with a few of my Dan Wessons. More will accompany me to the range this summer.

Edited on April 20, 2021:  I saw the missing photos of Dean's and restored them.

Nice report Dean,  and I must say that you have some very unusual Dan's in some unusual configurations as well.  Very nice!

BTW, agree that is a very nice looking range too.

That range is in Crittenden, KY, about 35 miles south of Cincinnati. It is my home range, a half hour's drive from where I live. It is mostly a handgun silhouette range, but they have other events. It has a covered firing line, 10 concrete benches for laying on during silhouette matches, or shooting rifles and pistols on, and the silhouette targets are all auto-reset. You would be welcome anytime...bring that .445!

These are all photos taken by Dean and/or by someone else that have Dean in them.

I restored Dean's missing photos, as best I could.  The second photo shows Dean's Kimber Ultra Varmint gun on the concrete bench and the other things that belong to him.

The third photo shows Dean laying on the concrete bench shooting his DW 741SRS gun.

The fourth photo is Dean shooting his most accurate gun; the Calfee #8.

The last 4 photos shows the club's auto reset targets of chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams.

That sight set on the .41 and .44 Magnum is a Bo-Mar rear and a Bond or Lansing globe front. Bo-Mar has been out of business for many years, due to an automobile accident that killed the owner of the company. They made outstanding sights for many guns, and were the best. You will be hard pressed to find any that someone would want to part with, and if you did, expect to pay $150+ for the set. I wish I had more of them myself.

If y'all don't mind a 3 or 4 HDs rolling in, might make a summer road trip and take you up on that offer Sir !!

There are ranges not too far from me, but a least an hr away. and I'm sure they don't look like that drool

BEAUTIFUL, Prob. 4-5 hrs. from me, [maybe less on MCbig-grin]

Thanks for sharing, Dave occasion

Don't mind that at all, you would be most welcome. Just let me know in advance, since the range is not open every day of the week, only on scheduled days.

That is such a great looking gun range, I'm envious of all the greenery! Ours here are mainly dirt & gravel. I guess that what we get for being in a semi-desert area.

If you've been on the http://www.ihmsa.org/forum/index.php forum, the range pic on the top of the page is this same range, and my picture of it. We have our first silhouette match there tomorrow. Should be a nice day for it.

I restored Dean's missing photos in the two posts that had photos.

I didn't know exactly what photos Dean originally posted, but I did the best I could.

In the second post, I included 3 photos that had Dean [or just one of his guns] in them and on that second post, I included the guns he was using or shown.

Marilyn, thanks so much for reposting those range photos! I had forgotten how great looking that range is, I am totally envious of that awesome range.
