What a great day. After catching enough Brook Trout (PA's official state fish) for a fine dinner, I decided it was time to take a few Dans out for a spin and shoot them through the Chronograph.

Impressions of the .357 Super Mag-  This gun Dwarfs any Hand Gun I have ever held in terms of weight.  I thought the 44 Mag with 10" Full Under lug was Heavy, but the Cylinder on this Super Mag is just plain huge.  This gun appears to have been fired only a handful of times, most likely less, before I took possession of it, but those days are over and this cannon is going to see some action. Due to the weight of the gun, felt recoil is much much less than full Magnum Loads in a regular 15-2 .357 Magnum. And it really is a joy to shoot in terms of recoil.  I did NOT enjoy shooting the Jamison 357 Maximum Ammo as I was experiencing numerous light primer strikes, but now I have brass to reload and that will happen as soon as I receive the Lee Reloading Dies I have ordered.  Chrono Data for the Jamison is posted in the Reloading section of this Forum.  I did shoot my own .357 Magnum reloads through the Super Mag both light load using 6.1 Grains of Unique and Heavy Full Magnum Loads using MP-300.  My reloads use Federal Small Pistol Primers and they all fired fine in the Super Mag.  This Chrono Data will also be posted in the Reload section.  My Full Magnum .357 Loads were shooting faster than the Jamison .357 Maximum loads out of the Super Mag.  As far as accuracy, I was really just testing velocity today, but when I did shoot the Super Mag at a paper target at 15 yards 5 shots were holding about a 1 1/2" group shooting Single Action.  Next trip I will work on adjusting the sights and test for accuracy.  As well as velocity of my own hand loads. One other problem I had with the Super Mag was on one of the chambers, I could not get the cylinder to advance in double action at the same chamber, I have diagnosed this problem as a cylinder gap issue and think it will not be an issue when I reset the cylinder gap and check it on every chamber.  I can't wait to get some reloads and get this big fella back out to the range.  Over all impression---two big thumbs up.  However, I am disappoint with the velocity and the light primer strikes of the Jamison Ammo and will most likely not purchase again.

Lots of fun putting holes in paper and collecting chrono data, now for all the cleaning.

Cool pics keep them coming!   Funny how we all have some of the same firearms!   Even down to SR1911!

Sounds like much fun! Thanks for sharing the pics and info, including the chrono info on your other posts. We all learn a little from each other.

Nice range report and very interesting chrono information.  Getting a chronograph is on my to do list.  Great photos as well.  That is a nicely done PP with the red material.

+1 on Dave and snake-eye ' s comments. Glad you are on the forum, you will have a lot to contribute. BTW, My first handgun ever purchased after Obama won his second term. It was a Ruger 1911. Snake-eye has one too. Not long after that I saw my first Dan Wesson. You may want to consider a DW 1911 also.

That Ruger SR1911 does everything I need a 1911 to do.  IN additional to the DWs I really like Rugers.  I recently worked on the internals a little just doing some polishing and removing of any rough spots.  I will continue to work on this gun as I gain the knowhow and confidence to fiddle with it.  Would enjoy getting into steel plate shooting, just can't dedicate the time.

The Next 1911 I purchase will be a 10MM Dan Wesson---it is going to be a while need some time to fundraise, but that is okay because they still make them so they will still be available when I can dedicate the $.

I like the Cadwell Chronograph Premium Kit because it can hook up to your iPhone or iPad and they have a free app that makes data recording so simple and the sharing of the data is also easy through e-mail directly from the app.  This Chrono has worked really well for me.  Still on the first battery.

I have been buying up some older style Samsonite and American Tourister Hardshell brief cases (cheap) to make my own "jerry rigged" gun cases.  I scrounge foam rubber (haven't had to buy it yet) and buy material at JoAnne Fabrics (So far it has been felt gonna get some velvet for the Super Mag)- fun project .  Not willing to pay what authentic DW pistol Pac cases are selling for on ebay.  That money could go toward barrels, guns or ammo.

If you like chrono info and reloading info, I will be happy to share, but with all things guns and reloading, these are just my results and your milage may vary.  It is always good practice to start low and work up using published data from a reputable source and work up checking for pressure signs (IE flattened primers and sticky cases).  I will caution that I like working up loads and getting them close to max, and there is certainly a fine line where pressure starts to SPIKE and cases get real sticky in the chamber--that is definitely a "not so early" warning sign that means- back off the powder or don't seat the bullet so deep- or probably some other things I haven't figured out yet.  Glad you like the data.
