Does anyone have one of these bad boys?  The bullet is .224 size. The cartridege  reminds me a little of my .221 FB. The mag holds 20 rounds. Built by FN Herstal; It's the P90 Personal Defense Pistol

It is unfortunate that the notoriety of this gun has come under a cloud because

it was misused in an infamous shooting. The design seems very neat to me especially for military use. I think the pistol sells for 1000.00. I think ammo is about 1.00 a piece and it can go up.

Article:

  http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2009/11/what-exactly-is-a-cop-killer-gun/

News reports on the Fort Hood rampage say that the alleged shooter, Maj. Nidal Hasan, used an FN Herstal Five-Seven pistol — described in some reports as a “cop killer” gun.

What, exactly, makes the Five-Seven different from other handguns?

The Five-Seven is chambered for the 5.7 x 28mm cartridge, ammunition originally developed by FN Herstal for the FN P90 Personal Defense Weapon. The P90 was conceived as a compact, powerful weapon that could be carried by aircraft crews, vehicle drivers and other troops who needed a weapon that was smaller than a carbine but larger than a pistol.

The P90 — like a competing personal defense weapon design, the 4.6mm Heckler & Koch MP7 — is supposed to pack more punch than submachine guns that fire a standard pistol rounds (9mm, say, or .45). And personal defense weapons are supposed to be capable of penetrating some kinds of body armor. As it happens, the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, has been mulling the requirements for a personal defense weapon for a few years now, although it’s far from clear the Army would procure a weapon built around a new cartridge.

I’ve seen a range demo of the MP7, and it can indeed punch through a “soft” vest or a Kevlar helmet (whether it could penetrate SAPI plates is a different matter). Gun control group The Brady Campaign says it bought and test-fired a Five-Seven, and that it successfully penetrated a police vest. That said, it doesn’t seem quite accurate to call the Five-Seven a pocket-sized assault rifle. Its barrel would give it a lower muzzle velocity than a PN90; likewise, it strikes me as unlikely that it would give a shooter much more accuracy and effective range than a standard pistol. And plain-vanilla pistol round can be devastating enough: Think of the Virginia Tech shooter, who used a Glock 9mm and Walther .22.

We don’t know at this point a lot of the details: Exactly what kind of ammunition the shooter used; how many shots in total were fired; and at what range. That will take a lot of police work, and a lot of patience.

Still, the tragedy at Fort Hood seems likely to renew debate: Both on gun control, and on the kinds of measures to protect troops while they are on base, and unarmed.

UPDATE: Hasan bought the gun on August 1st — less than a month after he was transferred to Ft. Hood, a law enforcement official tells Newsweek’s phenomenal new Declassified blog. “At the same time, Hasan also bought several high capacity 20 round magazines that allowed him to rapidly fire off multiple rounds during the attack without reloading, the official said.

I bought one for a LEO in Utah and did a trade deal on a Norwich .41.  The .41 turned out to be a beauty but that Five-seveN was an awesome piece of hardware.  It's on my list of upcoming acquisitions.

Thanks for posting about that. Awesome gun no doubt. Too rich for me, but I would not mind shooting it.

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

I have one.  And it's big brother, the PS90.  Both are insanely fun to shoot.

You can get 10 round mag extensions for the FiveSeven, to bring it's capacity to 30 rounds

I have a 5.7 it's a blast to shoot, it can be a bit spendy for ammo, although I picked some up off a Clearance Table at Gander Mtn last winter, not sure why they had it on a table with some odd calibers but I bought all they had.

Looks like someone took the AR-15, including the ammo, and abbreviated it down to a nice hand-held package.  I would like to shoot one of those one day. big-grin

Very sweet gun to shoot, awesome round for a pistol with nice capacity. No problems with mine but haven't been able to get real good accuracy with it. Will keep it in a 10" circle at 20 ' but I expected better than that.

A guy I use to work with has one. When I asked him why he bought he said " Its far more superior to any gun on the market!" I tried to explain to him that it was the weapoon its self but more the round but he wouldnt even hear of that.

Overall thought of the weapon is nice but way to much. You could get the PMR30 which looks really close to the FN57 but you can get it in 22 LR or 22 Mag.

I hear alot of people compare a 22mag to the 5x7 round. Once you get a little distance the ballistics don't compare the 5x7. Never been a fan of Kel-Tec guns, not knocking them. Just asthetically I wouldn't want a gun that looks like it was put together from a waffle iron mold, Leggos and an Erector set. Whole lot more economical though.

I was talking to a guy at the LGS the other day about just this subject. He has both guns, and while be is not saying the KelTec is the same as the FN, shooting the KelTec is so much more fun, because it is LOTS less expensive to shoot.

BTW, I've owned a few KelTecs, I think they are good, functional guns at a very good price.

Here's the KelTec I'm thinking looks pretty good one day:

http://www.keltecweapons.com/news/preview-kel-tec-shotgun-ksg/

26.1" LOA 13 rounds of 3" 12 GA, Picatinny rail. Dual, selectable, side by side tube magazines so you can keep 6 rounds of two different loads on deck and select either one as needed?

Someday!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
