I have been looking for this gun for years! A couple months ago, I finally found a good specimen at the right price. I can find later stainless examples all day long, BUT it's tough to find an early tapered 10.5" barrel with the ramped front sight. I think they only made these just a few years, before they switched to the current heavy bull barrel with the "hooked" (I forget the actual name for it) front sight.

Anyway, the reason I wanted this gun was to match my blued 1981 SBH that I've had for years. Now I just have to track down a matching set of Herretts grips...which I'm finding out is hard to find these days!

Of course, this means I'm gonna have to find a little bit larger case so they both fit. laugh

Something like this is what I'm thinking, so I can have a yin/yang set of long barrel SBH's in one case...because that's how I roll. smile

That'll be a sweet looking set! I recently inherited a stainless New Model in 45 caliber, circ 1980.  I forgot that I took Dad to a friends house in Indiana who free wheeled the cylinder for him.  Thought there was something definitely wrong with it until I took off the grip and saw the screw. Then the memories came back.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

A free wheeling cylinder would certainly catch you off guard. Cool story though, glad it stayed in your family!
