Just purchased a Dan Wesson .357 monson I haven't had a chance to shoot it but if it shoots as good as it looks I'm in business, Picked it up for $ 250 5 digit serial # so i'm assuming 1977? This is my first wheelgun so any tips? I am already in love with her and my Glock just got pushed to the side !

Welcome to DWF Sign nice looking piece you have there! Fine looking Dan Wesson. Get out and shoot would be my tip see how she handles. And the Glock is really gonna be jealous once it comes to range time. LOL. You stole that one for that kind of price that is GTDW.   Atleast you can't be hit with the ole Post Pics. Look forward to your range report on your new item. Caution the Dan Wesson's can very addictive I have found out. Once bitten it's like Zombie isem LOL.

JP, nice catch. Welcome to the DWF Sign.  Glad to have you aboard and looking forward to many posts and that range report. Don't hesitate to ask questions. I have one. Did you get a barrel wrench, gap gage and the box?  Looks like a nice grip also.

Welcome JP...you got a great deal on that Dan. It should shoot very well, and make you want more Dan Wessons. Heck, you might even want to sell that Glock for another Dan.

In my area northern Wisconsin that gun goes for 350+ all day long you got a good deal. Now time to get rid of that god awful Glock and get you some accessories for the Dan. rofl We'll have you shooting accurately in no time at all. LOL

Very likely…does it have an interchangeable front sight? If it's a pinned (non-interchangeable) sight, those were made in 1976 to somewhere in early ~mid 1977, from what I can gather so far.  Or…if the s/n in close to (but higher than) 45xxx, I'd say it's a '76. If it's quite a bit higher than that, but below the 60xxx range, it's probably an early '77.

Regardless, for $250, I'd say that is certainly aGTDW Congrats & Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the DWF, and thanks for posting a picture . Your date guess is probably pretty good, the earliest 15-2 we have right now is 7261x in 1977.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

91xxx Is the serial, the rear sight is a little loose and the nice orange ramp on the front looks like someone took a bic lighter to it I have seen white and yellow sights but have yet to find another orange one. And thanks for the welcome everyone !

I'm also looking for a new grip, I'm thinking black burlwood color would look good with the deep bluing any suggestions?

Hogue has a great selection of woods and styles

http://www.hoguestore.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=25_55

You could also research back here

https://www.danwessonforum.com/?page_id=3/reloading/

to see what some of our members have done to make their own.

On Gunbroker you can usually fine inletted grip blanks to carve your own. At one point in time Dan Wesson Pistol Packs included an inletted grip blank.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
