Welcome! You are indeed a lucky guy to have a dad that would gift you such a fine firearm. Beautiful looking 15-2 VH pack. I hope you are planning to shoot that baby. A range report when you do would be great, along with pics since you already know we love kewl pics!

As far as I can tell this has never been fired nor have any of the other barrels been attached. There is a very fine line where the cylinder looks to have been rotated but there is no other wear I can find nor firing residue on any surface. I found some documents hidden behind the upper liner with a parts list dated to April 1977.

Your Dad really loves you. You seem to have a bit of knowledge about firearms. It looks like it probably is unfired outside of the factory. You have a decision to make. Shoot or not shoot it. Many here would shoot it . Some such as I say find a shooter grade dan and defer the decision until you decide if it is your cup of tea. On the other hand, careful handling would not hurt it. Be aware that you should tilt the gun to the left when ejecting cases and keep your left pointer and middle finger inside the frame to keep the cylinder from closing while the ejecting cases. Almost all dans have scratches on the side plate or nicks on the recoil shield from the ejector star scraping as the cylinder tries to close. Clean your gun and shrouds well . I use Flitz rubbed on with my finger and wiped off to remove the imperceptable patina of oxidation (rust ) that a new, old stock gun 37 years old might have. Welcome to the forum.

A real beauty, you are a very lucky guy. 1977 is correct for that gun and grip is especially nice.
Shoot or don't shoot is obviously your choice. My comment, FWIW, is that if Dan meant for his guns to be safe queens, he'd have included a little "diamond tiara" in the Pistol Pack.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

There should be a little gauge in the manila envelope. It may be stuck in there. It will be .006. Go to any auto parts store and get a set of spark plug feeler gauges. The gap should be set on the proudest chamber. Usually they are even but one chamber may have a smaller gap. The factory specifies .006 but most Dan owners use the smallest gape they can get away with. When you insert the gauge do not force it in as that will push the cylinder rearward against the dedent ball and give a false reading. I try to use .002 or .003 but you may have to reset it after a few or more cylinders worth of rounds as the cylinder may expand or the front of the cylinder gets dirty.(wipe it). The barrel tool you have is not the best model. I lier the all steel ones they made later or one from EWK. Tighten the barrel nut snug but do not overdo it. Ditto for the grip screw. Lastly, read as much of the forum as you can to learn about your gun.

I looked all over the case and in the lining and no gauge. I'll order what I need from EWK though I think I might look for another "shooter" DWA similar to this one. I've owned plenty of other firearms and I've trained on many others in the Army but I've never owned a revolver and this is definitely not one I want to make a newbie mistake on.
