To Forum Members,

I joined the forum last week. I am 77 years old. I have been shooting, hunting, reloading and doing basic gunsmithing work most of my life. I am a retired engineer and have some basic metal working equipment.

I am a new Dan Wesson Owner. I just came into possession of a .357 Magnum, 15-2V Pistol Pac as shown below. It has a few problems. It's missing the 4" barrel and shroud and there is some rust/pitting on several areas of the frame. The three (3) barrel assemblies are in almost perfect shape. I am considering having the revolver, complete with the 8" barrel assembly, reblued to as-new condition. I can do a pretty good job with the rust blue process, but I do not have the equipment to do a hot dip process. I called CZ-USA and spoke with Genny Spencer. She informed me that CZ will not do the bluing job. They can furnish a 4" barrel but it's a heavy barrel with a full underlug. I prefer a standard Monson barrel to maintain uniformity of the set. Since CZ will not do the work, I am considering sending the revolver to either Precision Bluing in Creedmooe, NC or to Ford's Custom Gun Refinishing in Crystal River, FL for refinishing. If any member of the forum has experience with either outfit, I would appreciate your suggestion regarding which of them to use.

It is sad that the original owner allowed the revolver to get in such condition. You will notice in one of the photos that the package containing the cleaning rod. brush and bore mop has not been opened! Based on the condition of the revolver, there's no surprise there.

If someone knows where a blue 4" vent rib, .357 Magnum Monson barrel may be obtained, I would appreciate that information.

Thanks in advance for any input that may be helpful.

Tom

Welcome from Texas!

Ebay is the likely place to look, but you may find a member with an extra laying around that needs a home.

Post a WTB in the Classified section.

Da...64,

Thanks! That's one vote for Ford's. When I spoke with their contact,  she assured me that they could do the job. We'll see.

Welcome to the forum from PA!

Ebay, Gunbroker and our for sale/wanted to buy area are your best options for an original barrel assembly.

Go to the Forums tab at the top of the screen and scroll down to WTB and post what you're looking for.  That's it.

Thanks, Old Dog. That's a second vote for Fords.

Scorpio, I will try to post on WTB. Thanks for the instruction.

dwf-welcome to the dwf

Don't ask for a Standard barrel assembly, which has a shroud with no vents in the Rib. As you are aware, your Pac is a Vented style.

Thanks, Stinger. I realize that I need a vent rib barrel. My reference to "standard" meant a standard weight barrel, not a heavy barrel with the full underlug as CZ-USA currently sells.

I have a lot to learn.

Welcome from Western Kentucky Tom. It seems there are a few DW owners in this part of the country.

Good luck with your rebluing project.  I hope it works out well for you.

Fords custom guns…they are amazing
here is a Colt 1911 Gold Cup…it was in a car underwater from hurricane Idalia
before and after pictures…their gunsmith reconditioned all parts, just had to get new springs

There is an original 4 inch just showed up on ebay! It's not perfect but maybe you can get it at a low price at auction!dwf-welcomedwfgoodluckScreenshot-2024-02-11-11.05.22-PM-1.pngImage Enlarger
